I am in a theme league called "Chicks Dig the Long Ball", and as it draws to a close, I wanted to call attention to what I consider to be the most amazing and incredible achievement, a run differential of more than 700 runs! We have a team with a huge lead in runs scored, and has just pulled ahead in the race for fewest runs allowed, a rare feat!

The most important record would be number of wins in a legitimate league. But right behind it in importance has to be run differential, because that's how you achieve the most wins. And if you somehow lead the league in both runs scored and runs allowed, you are in the discussion for all-time greatest team.

The non-playoff teams in this league are rooting for the so-called "100 win curse" to fail this time.

This guy deserves the championship, he's earned the two free credits.

Maybe I am way off base here, but I think the ratio of offense to pitching is certainly a factor in number of wins, but it seems to me that a far more important factor is optimizing your team to your ballpark, to your division and to the teams/parks in your league.
Having a high powered HR offense with lots of BP HRs in a division/league of primarily Forbes/Braves/Cominsky ballparks, may not be the optimal choice.
And an extension of that is matchups. Its not about salary, its about having the right pitchers to face the lineups you are going to face and vice versa.
If you are in a league with an abundance of Navin/Wrigley59/Minute Maid parks, having some cheap heavy righties, like Darwin, Sutton, Pinero etc. might be the way to go.
And likewise if your home ballpark is Navin, and there are a whole bunch of Sportsman38s, Dunns, and Yankee Stadiums in your league, you will be able to use some cheap LH starters when you are on the road.

Even with a RD of +700, the pythagorean calculation only has him with 101 wins. The high run scoring environment makes it hard to judge what's going on.

Exactly! This particular theme league is ridiculous, and I cringe every time I see the name!

Fascinating...even switching from Pythagorean to the more accurate Pythagenpat, which supposedly works no matter how extreme the environment, it only nets him one additional win.
