Duffy is real popular and not likely to get him. But some others I like to pick in similar manner are. And some are more than just a place holder so you can concentrate money on 24 players.

Elston Howard 67 card. This card is only 0.5. I like to list him as a third catcher. If he happens to fall through I have a useable catcher or trade piece. If he doesn't no big deal since I am also drafting the 2 catchers I really want. And even a useless third catcher is of value pre-waivers as it gives you trade flexibility. With 3 catchers on roster you can trade one of them if you want without being forced to take a catcher back in return. Sometimes that flexibility can get you a trade made while someone else has to sit on the sidelines watching.

Gaylord Perry has a nickel card. If you are going all out on an expensive 4 man rotation and listing them high you may not want to waste money on a 5th starter whom you are going to swap out in waivers for a spot starter specialist or a cheapo placeholder. And in some circumstances you might swap to the expensive one and use as a back end of rotation option. Dazzy Vance has the 1.99 card that serves much the same purpose but is probably more useable after conversion and more trade value if you choose to go that route. Ditto Chief Bender.

Ron Leflore. Cheap card that you can keep in to the season as a pinch runner. There are many others of similar price and utility value. This lets you maximize the value of your other picks as it ties up little money but is also not a wasted pick since you would keep him going in to season. The instinct is to say no under 1 mil card could ever hold their own in 200 mil. But why would you pay more than that for a pinch runner? So drafting a pinch runner up front takes care of a useful bench role, saves money for better cards at other picks, and best of all is not a wasted pick. Post draft you will be pestered with at least one offer asking for this pinch runner and another star or two for mid-level bench players but reject button handles that.

Another thing I often forget but like to do when I can remember it is draft a couple S/R types. Even if I plan on using the version of a player who is not rated S/R I may choose that year to draft. Thinking there is by drafting 4 starters, 4 RP only, and 2 S/R pitchers I have post draft trade flexibility. I can give up a starting pitcher or a relief pitcher because I am still left with a legal roster of the minimum requirements of starters and relievers. So maybe I have Clemons to trade and another guy has Cy Young. But he cannot trade unless he gets a starter back and I can. So the guy negotiating with us both may have no preference between the cards but will trade with me because I can make a deal now before waivers and the other guy cannot.

I think one of the reasons I make as many or more trades prewaivers than others is I plan for the flexibility needed for pulling the trigger.

19.Duffy, Hugh (1901) (CF,RF,LF) - .90M

Gee Valen, Duffy listed 19th in a 200M league and he gets him, and the .90 version at that....he surely is valuable and listed top 3 in all leagues huh?

I just offered someone Duffy, Speaker and Heilman for Foxx and T. Wiliams and he told me it was a terrible offer for him. He said all three of those, Duffy, Speaker and Heilmann were "significantly overpriced" and it would ruin his team...I mean to call that a "terrible offer" ?????? To each his own I guess.

I would not call that a terrible offer. But may depend on ballparks and what the other guy is trying to do.
If I was building a bomber team I would probably reject. Though even then if I had a team full of power guys ...
And if I was going small ball then I jump on the accept button before you change your mind.

I would say this offer may be an exception to the 2 for 3 rule of thumb. Though this would not be a good example of a trade where someone offers X number of players including one who is only good for cutting. No cutters in that group of 3. Definitely fair though acceptability will be in the eye of the beholder and their circumstances.

Full disclosure I may be a little biased toward this trade because I used to use Speaker a lot but Salty would never let me have him. He loved to draft Cobb/Speaker and no matter what order I put them in he seemed to anticipate and put them higher. Then again on flip side never once been able to get Foxx and that would likely keep me from turning him loose if ever successful in drafting him.

All I can say is that I have put Duffy on my card and got him unless I put him #1 on my card. Several times I have put him #2 and still did not get the card. So while the world will always have stalkers I stand by my statement that Duffy is a top 3 pick in majority of leagues.

It's entirely possible the other manager was yanking your chain a bit - just to get this kind of reaction out of you - He/she didn't want to accept the trade, but to make things more lively / interesting he/she threw down the "terrible offer" card and upped the ante by insisting the players offered were significantly overpriced. Everyone who has ever played in $200M leagues knows that NO player is overpriced at that salary cap, which makes me think he/she wasn't serious ... just joking with you.

I rarely pay any attention to who is in a league when I get ready to launch a team. In fact for most leagues I create a new league or join one that just started and am in the east. Would have no trouble being in same division as you. So feel free to watch all leagues and jump right in whenever you see me. I have been in divisions with nevdully before. Have no problem with that either. I have met him in finals twice.

As to your clear intent to insult... yawn.
