I've been reviewing games of the Cubbies team that I recently managed in the FATY IV tournament, and discovered that Phil Niekro and Cecil Upshaw had pitched a combined no hitter for my team. Why didn't I catch that earlier? Because the headline of the game didn't mention it!
This Soxs team that was no hit eventually won the championship for the ATG VI and 70s leagues, as well as the entire tournament.
Previous to the FATY IV tournament, I had participated in about 24 leagues, and during that time I've had one of my pitchers toss a no-hitter, and I've been no-hit one time. In the FATY IV tournament, I had two no-hitters; the one shown above, and one tossed by Steve Trachsel in the 90s league.
P.S. You gotta love the Play by Play description of the game... "Niekro was cheered on with every out from the 7th inning onward. The adrenaline had to be just pumping through his veins", because Niekro was relieved in the 6th inning after walking in a run.
