Making Trades Workout - Conversion Idea

Making the money in trades workout has always been a big problem.

How about having a conversion feature built into the trading scenario. After all, you own all versions of a player. What if in the trade screen, there were a dropdown box for any player with multiple cards. You could then change the player's card to another version of the same player in the trade to make the trade workout. The drop down box should be available to you for both your team and the owners team you are trying to make the trade with.

So for instance, I could change a players card on my team in the trade screen and I can change the other owners players card in the trade offer to make the money work out.

The players cards would not actually convert unless the trade were accepted.

Then, after the trade goes thru, you could finagle your roster to get back to whichever of the obtained players card you wish.

This would be an unfair in season option, because managers then circumvent the drop/add penalty for changing years. It is unneeded preseason/post waivers because the owners can do it themselves prior to trade and after.

You could not circumvent the drop/add penalty with my suggestion. (Assuming there is no collusion, and owners are trying to make fair trades).

I don't see how it would be unfair.

The conversion would only take effect if the trade is accepted and once players are swapped to each other teams.

The drop/add penalty would still apply after the trade has occurred and if you want to convert the player you obtained back to a different card.

This is probably one of the better suggestions for making a trade work. I could see a number of instances where this might help.

I am trying to obtain Ruth. The other guy has the expensive Ruth but I plan on using the 13 mil Ruth. The trade could then be made assuming the 13 mil version fits under my cap and other aspects of the trade are legal.

Another example: someone has the 8.5 mil version of henderson but the 7.8 mil version would work well on my team.

The only way I could see for abuse/cheating would be 2 people conspiring to make serial trades swapping players back and forth just to change years. But surely this could be prevented by coding it so once you trade a player you cannot reobtain that same player.

I would agree there would have to be some sort of safeguard. I would prefer it where it was coded so that a particular team could only convert a particular player one time thru a trade in a season.

One of the biggest deterrents in trading is the cash or salary cap, I think this is a good idea and would stimulate more trades.

As far as someone trying to cheat around the add drop by moving players back n forth, you could code a rule where a trade between the same managers involving the same players would be allowed but only at the price of the initial trade.
So manager A trades Ruth to manager B and manager B selects Ruth's 13.03 card, if they try and swap Ruth back, manager A can only get him at the original price of trade 1.

In leagues with the 5/10/20 drop penalties, you see alot of early movement of players cause the hit to the roster is less of an impact. I think doing this with the trades would do the same, especially after waivers and before season starts.

This would be especially helpful when making a trade between a player who is at a lower card value vs a player at a higher card value.

Ex. Joe Wood .90 cent card vs a SP in $9-10 salary range. It is very difficult to trade and balance the money in a situation where another owner has a players downgraded card and you are making offers with other players cards that were not downgraded.

The proposed feature would make it easier to get to the main point of the trade (main players intended to be traded) and exclude the "noise" (the players used to try and balance the money) to a certain extent.

Let's be real. If 2 teams are trading players back and forth with or without the feature mentioned in this thread something fishy is going on. Maybe they are colluding and making the trade based on opponents. Say trading Koufax to a team about to go to several lefty leaning park and trading back after. Whatever the reason I would always suspect something.

So why not simply make it where if you trade a player to someone they cannot send him back? Solves the problem of trading for matchups and closes any loophole being able to trade versions of a card would open.

In all the years I have been playing, I have really not seen this happen in any of the leagues I have played in. (At least that I am aware of). I am not sure how big a problem this really is. I have seen plenty of bad/unfair trades, but not trades where the same players are traded back and forth. I would think if any customers had a pattern of doing that regularly, they would have been reported and their teams confiscated. JMO

Like.

As for collusion, it can pervade any aspect of the game.
