theme league, 100 mil, no DH.
i only had the NYG-DB and PHA-DB rosters to choose from. there is not much to choose from in the way of RPers. so i am planning on riding my SPers as long as possible. i also plan on playing herzog at SS. what would you do different and why?

My two cents would be to:
1. Dump 7 mil breshnahan. Go with Ira Thomas and a cheap backup, or if you want more offense, 4.36 Myers can hit.
2. Pick up a Lajoie that plays SS and Eddie Collins for 2b
3. Pick up Coombs to be your 4th starter and get the best possible top 3.
Good looking team, another weakness might be your outfield, spend money on the the best three available out there.

i do have the three best OF options in my mind, and i think lajoie at SS would be to big of a defensive hit. i only have the 12+ mil one available to me. i can not use either of the CLE cards. bresnahan is my 1/2 hitter depending on the SP.
line-up vLH/vRH
Van Haltren/Bresnahan
Bresnahan/Van Haltren
O'Rourke/Baker
Lajoie
Connor
Donlin/Youngs
Baker/Donlin
Herzog
i really see that as the best possible line-up, perhaps not batting order though. marquard is definitely better than the cheap coombs.

mikemartin,
what would your line-up look like? which OFers would you use? there is a limited supply.

The only thing I would think about is that, if you can finance an upgrade elsewhere by using the cheap Baker, do it. Other than the clutch rating, the cheap Baker card is right there with the one you're using. Better D, piles more TB against RHP (although fewer against LHP) and an automatic good lead for guys who run rat catchers out there.

Call me crazy, but i would still play Lajoie at SS and pick up a collins card.
Bresh is overpriced, and Ira Thomas hits well enough for small ball, plus his arm/D is a good value.
I like the strategy of 3 stud starters and a good enough bargain guy (cheap coombs would be good).
Your outfield might be better as:
LF - Murray (2L)/ Lord (3R)
CF - Snodgrass/ Oldring
RF - Youngs (5R)
too bad donlin doesnt play CF, but i think he's overpriced
Ive always leaned more towards hitting than defense, but good luck either way.

really? he is a 3e40 at SS. that just seems crazy to me.
i also see van haltren as the best option in CF. his card is better than that platoon you suggested. i also like donlin's positive clutch batting out of the 5/6 spot in the line up. i did drop young for murray though so i could upgrade my SPers. i need bresnahan's bat. i know thomas is great for small ball. i am currently using him on 2 other teams, but with my limited options at the OF spots i need to get hits at every position i can.

Ross Youngs' other card is a million cheaper, better balanced, and much better in the clutch. I've had good luck with him on my small ball teams. Ditto for Ira Thomas. Both are often among my first picks when putting together a DB era team in big ballparks.
