The stats on Jake Stenzel's card are slightly different from baseball-reference.com. Specifically, Strat has him with 131 games, 522 at bats, and 75 walks, for a total of 597 plate appearances. BB-ref has him with 132 games, 525 at bats and 76 walks, which totals 601 plate appearances. (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/stenzja01.shtml)

Why the discrepancy? And are there others?

Shoot a note to SOM for the answer. Judging by your remarks, you're absolutely correct.

It could well be that bbref has data that has changed from what the "official" stats for 1894 were. I checked my MacMillan (published 1996) and the stats SOM cites on his card agree with theirs. So sometime in the past 16 years someone has audited the 1894 stat keepers and found an error. I'm not terribly surprised by that.

The question is, would you have used him if his card was priced as though he had no 15 game injury risk, or are you just trying to gain an edge for your team?
