Reverse lineups - are they really necessary?

It seems to me that we've been handed two new lineup variations to address when a coding change to the ones we had would have sufficed. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but are they REALLY necessary?

Wouldn't it have been simpler for all users for the devs to make a coding change for the standard LHP a RHP lineups, so that they would deal with the pitcher's dominance rather than his throwing hand -- and then add a third lineup option for pitchers with even left-right balance?

What am I missing?

Not really. I would find more value in controlling which way a switch hitter bats

Necessary or not they provide more control over the lineup and the manner implemented was probably driven somewhat by how the cdrom game upon which the online game is based is structured. Remember the online version is largely just a front end to a subset of the cdrom game.

Without addressing whether this would have been better it would have required a fundamental change to how lineups were handled by the cdrom game engine and thus would definitely not have been simpler for the developers to make a coding change. All they really had to do for what they did and how they did it was produce a front end lineup page so one could enter their choices for lineups 3 and 4. The rest of the logic was already present in the cdrom game code. Just needed activated for the online game.

Can someone please give me an example of how they're changing the lineups for reverse? It's not like J Alou is going ot be in your starting lineup vs a RHP, no matter what.

For example, here's a current team and the LHP and RHP lineups. What am I missing that I don't see an advantage to changing?

RHenderson - Doyle
JAlou - Arky
Arky - EMathews
EMathews -JCallison
Hershberger -Stargell
Doyle - Covington
JCallison -Delancey
KiddoDavis - JGardner
Stargell - RHenderson

The only thing I could see is moving Callison up vs reverse LHP and down vs reverse RHPs.

LInk to above team

Thanks

So, like, if my LH Hitter is a 5R and I'm gonna face a RHP who is 3L, what's the point? If the roll lands on the hitter's card, my guy is 5R against ALL RHP, from 9R to 9L, no matter their balance. Yes, if it goes to the pitcher's card, he has the advantage, but I'm not gonna carry a 5L LH platoon hitter, so I'm not gonna be able to take advantage of that in a 80m or 100m league.

I looked at a couple of ways to implement the reverse lineup, but it just gave me a headache. :?

Here are some examples of experiments I am trying in a 140 league.

Against standard lefty Arod 1L hitting second with Brett 6th. Against reverse lefty Brett moves up to second and Arod drops to 6th. In between sit Mays, Ruth, and Gonzalez.

Against standard righty have Mays 2L hitting third, and Ruth 1L hitting 4th. Against reverse those 2 swap and move up a slot. Brett drops from second to 5th or 6th depending on how I am feeling about Arod that day.

Notice neither of these is a platoon. Just minor changes in batting order. I am not carrying any extra players or spending any extra money. I am just tweaking the lineup just like I might do if I were a real manager sitting in the dugout.
