For those that actually give a crap about trying to win -

How many know (I didnt!) That the rules listed on this site are not the ones we are playing by?

Those rules are 'overridden' by the CD-ROM/ONLINE! mechanism rendering many effects on the cards null and void.

Here is another the game says- which explains why things dont make sense when we play:

Using this option will enable Maddux to duplicate his real-life dominance in this area. A number of categories are affected by this option including home runs, walks and strikeouts. Also pitchers hitting will be affected by using this option, resulting in less walks and extra base hits by pitchers.

TO ME THIS IS FRAUDULENT BEHAVIOR!
You cant tell us one way are the rules and know its false.

It was my understanding that the statistical accuracy option you reference was turned off as the fix for the power zapper problem we all got upset about a few years back. Of course no way of actually knowing.

Given my belief that the 50/50 model is incapable of reproducing control dominance like Maddux then or Cliff Lee in 2010 I would not have a huge problem with this being turned on. But it should be clearly stated somewhere in the rules of the game that this feature is turned on. I tend to avoid pitchers with extreme performances precisely because I believe the strat model cannot reproduce what they accomplished. And I do not want to pay for the ability to do something that the card cannot deliver on. So I might be more inclined to use say Maddux more often if I knew for sure this was turned on.

Just post it in the rules so everyone easily knows what the ground rules are. And if you are going to put part of the rules on a wiki page somewhere then put a link on our front office page to those wiki pages.

If it is on, then it's not working. Maddux, Eckersley, et al. walk guys at a much higher rate than real life.

I would say here that I fall in the category that things fun should trump winning.
But the conclusion is the same. Its no fun guessing at the rules. Its no fun finding

It is fun to have the control a GM has. Hence knowing what the rules are and how
to play within the rules to do the best you can.

On the justification of the mystery "accuracy" improvement algorithms. These sound
a lot like "Performance Enhancing Logic," (PEL) in other words cheats. They make the game
engine more accurate in the same manner that Barry Bonds hit more HRs than Hank Aaron.
I've looked at other baseball simulations on the market, and many of them claim to be
accurate with what I would call "Performance Enhancing Logic" They try to say they are
superious because they are not based on a table top game (which kind of says, we can
incorporate all the accuracy cheats we can think of). Strats advantage is that it
is old school, it can have transparent rules. It doesn't have to be the Mark McGwire
of baseball simulations.

Look, I am just one manager. Although I like accuracy in the game, accuracy does not trump
the game. Having the control a GM that can know the rules is more important than incremental
accuracy improvents -- so when you can't have both, don't sacrifice the more important feature
for an inacrement of a lesser important feature.

And I know a lot of what I said has been said before. Calling it "Performance Enhancing Logic"
would suggest it is broader than individual aspects or incidents (or algorithms) that have been
discussed, and yes, it would include "Normalization." My definition of PEL is any and all algorithm
incorporated in the game engine that are used to artificially boost the accuracy and are hidden
from the game managers (for whatever reason).

One of the reasons PED got out of hand in real baseball is that MLB was slow to realize how
wide spread the sentiment against them was in the general fan. So all I can say is, this
manager considers the PEL in your programming codes to be cheat. I come here for strat,
I have stayed playing for the strat, despite the PEL. If the PEL is not brought under control,
I will not stay.

There is a lot here I did not know either. Also I struggled to find the Wiki page last night that you guys were referencing.

Let me explain what the problem is:

I dont give a crap that we have em or dont have- ITS BEING UP FRONT ABOUT HAVING THEM and US KNOWING THEY ARE THERE OR NOT!

Im here to have fun over winning- otherwise Id stop playing high cap small ball which is an uphill challenge-
MY POINT IS simply this-

SoM has an OBLIGATION to accurately provide/start us off with a level playing field for all managers- not SOME managers who happen to have the CD-ROM game.
Once the level playing field is provided then its up to the experience of each manager to determine a course of action.

Imagine if the Yankees had some way of knowing that MLB was going to start calling LOW STRIKES next season and the other teams didn't.
Can you imagine the uproar when the rest of the teams found out that the info leaked out to the Yankees only???????

Im here to have fun- but how is it fun when I feel another manager(s) has access to info that I dont and havent had- due to the negligence of SoM AND TsN to provide it for only the 'Lucky' few- and quite frankly its not the other managers fault either- its the leaderless ship here- and Im holding back on what I really want to say.

PS- before people start telling me they'd adjust- keep in mind the Yankees then had an entire pre-season to practice throwing low-strikes- and to aquire players who are good at it- its not simply an in-game adjustment.

Yeah- Im not getting upset w/ the people chiming in- there are some important thoughts going around:

I am absolutely angered that Bernie/Garcia whoever is running the show thinks that its okay for them to disclose things to some and not all.

and its a continuing pattern of not getting 'IT' and 'IT' just isn't that complicated.

A few thoughts..

Many of us "eventually" learn most of what is what....eventually...and on our dime...and not just the dime it cost to buy the teams between us sorting through misinformation if we can find rules at all, and learning, but the additional dimes it might have cost you in potential credits lost from building a team based on rules not in effect.


Some of the black box stuff might need to be kept secret, I understand that...and much of it might help improve statistical accuracy, I can get on board with that, although I really believe the cards should be the cards... and we might if understood, ask that most of this stuff be kept in the game...But to have 3 different places to find rules, some rules here, some rules there, and most rules only if you own the cd-rom is pathetic...

What I find fraudulent, is knowingly, directing new paying customers to rules that are not in effect....and they've done this from the beginning and still continue to knowingly do so.

I don't see this getting any better as Bernie and team feel more untouchable than ever....Sad really.
