So I lose last night and my 100 win team is out in the semi's to the wildcard.
My SP is Jack Taylor.
My question is this... Why with 2 outs, does he issue an IBB to a righty (Hornsby) to get to Stan the Man, a lefty?
Especially with 2 outs...
Now I get the fact that the next roll to Medwick still hurts me off of Musial's card. But just don't get the IBB.

After the Wild PItch, loading the bases for hopefully an inning-ending double play grounder?

Hard to say without knowing the score or the particular cards involved. But since Taylor is evenly balanced between lefties and righties, any platoon advantage is driven by the hitters' cards. If it's the 5R Hornsby and the 2L Musial, I could see why HAL would rather take his chances with Stan the Man with a righty on the mound.

looks like the WP put men on 2nd and 3rd. The IBB was given to create a force out at every base. Possibly it was a 3-0 or 3-1 count giving Hornsby a big advantage

scumby is probably correct on this one
I can empathize with the rough splits with 2 BP singles (Hafey and Musial) on 1-7 splits is rough on the home team.
BUT and make that a
big butThe card readings BTW are wrong....on the only Taylor card with BPsingles in the 5 column (1902 9.18 mil) the 5-11 roll vs RH hitting Hafey should have been a game ending GB to short. The 5-3 to LH Musial should have been a game ending K
imo you have plenty to do a slow burn with

Well, with two outs, a double play WOULD end the inning.

The E Hornsby
The 2L Musial
I'm down 3-1 heading into the top of the 9th.

You don't give enough info to make an informed decision. Park effects could be critical here. Also Hornsby has an OPB over 50 points higher than Musial against righties and clutches down less than Musial. I'd rather face Musial here than Hornsby, unless it is a lefty bomber park. And I think the logic probably is to maximize the chance to prevent one run from scoring.
To me the issue here is the hated wild card.

looks like the WP put men on 2nd and 3rd. The IBB was given to create a force out at every base.
In fairness to HAL, and I usually am not, walking that man to set up the force at any base is something most major league managers do in that situation every time. So difficult to find fault with the guy who programmed HAL to do it.
