Preventing HAL from swapping outfielders?

PostSun Feb 24, 2013 12:16 am

Is there anything I can do to stop HAL from swapping my LF and my RF? Colavito and maris have the same range and error rating in both fields, 2e9. However, Colavito has the better arm at -5. Maris is no sluch, but usually you want the better arm in RF. Why does HAL insist in swapping Maris into RF and Colavito into LF? Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

nope, I've had the same issues on other teams. I'm with you I want the better arm in RF, but HAL continues to swap them.

I doubt there is, but provide a link to your team and post your defensive subs and individual player setting for each of your OFers.

Currently, only Def. subs I have are Werts at 3B and Todt at 1B.

Maris Is set to Don't sac bunt and don't steal. Colavito, don't steal.

Just an FYI - I don't think it matters, statistically, where you have the better arm. I think there are as many balls hit to left as right and the results for the players trying to take the extra base is the same weather the throw comes from left or right.

It makes a difference trying to stop guys going from second to third. The throw from RF is further to 3B, and gives the runner a bonus to his safe chance, +2 I believe.

But perhaps rjohaire is thinking you get that same 10% boost to the runner regardless of which arm is in RF. So I can see some validity to saying it does not matter that much.

Though since the way I perceive Strat to work the arm rating mostly functions to determine how often an extra base is gone for and not how often an OFer throws someone out the stronger arm in RF keeps that aggressiveness more balanced and in check. So agree with Ragnarokpc it matters.

Unfortunately, looking at roster here is what I think is happening. When I look at the card of Colavito I see LF listed first, which could be interpreted as that being his primary position. Maris on the other hand has RF listed first. So the swap of OFers is HAL trying to get the players to their primary positions.

Now clearly that is not what you want. I would call that a bug but that is likely to get your entire thread deleted so I will not say that.

i have also had this issue for years. no, there is no way to prevent HAL from making these ludicrous and unnecessary moves. it is a coding issue that is some where in HAL's system. yes, the arm can make a difference in the long run, but it will only cost you less than 2 games in a season or two.

So wondering sdajr76, if you have seen this before on past teams could you go back and check.
Were you attempting to use a player who had LF listed as their first position in RF or vice versa?

Not saying you should not be doing that but since I noticed this on ragnarokpc's team thought we might gather evidence on whether that may be what accounts for the swapping.
