Holding the runner

I have to say, the auto holding of a runner is a pain.
Situation.
Eddie Collins is on 2nd with 2 outs.
GB(ss)X is rolled. Larkin is my shortstop. Play results in a RBI single because Collins is held thus making Larkin a 2 instead of a 1
With 2 outs, I wouldn't care if Collins stole 3rd, so I wouldn't hold him.
Thus the play would result in 3rd out instead of RBI single.
Too bad we have no control over when and where runners are held.
