Ted Wiliams always said Virgil Trucks was the toughest pitcher he ever faced... a pretty good claim from Ted.
RIP Virgil!!!!

OK -- I thought I'd tie the recent passing of Virgil Trucks with I cool story I read on the NY Times website:

Neshek updated his blog last week with a new list of the cards he needs to complete his quest. He posted photographs of some new arrivals to his Twitter page, on which he also mourned the death of the former pitcher Virgil Trucks, who wrote a four-page letter filled with pitching advice to Neshek when he was in college.

Autograph Collector on a Mission

Since many of you here are baseball card collectors, maybe you can help Mr. Neshek in his quest.

The thing I always thought was cool was his 1952 season where he was 5-19 but threw two no-hitters. A friend of mine saw the second no-hitter at Yankee Stadium. He still has the ticket stub!

Virgil just pitched game 7 of a recently completed finals, losing a 1-0 game on an unearned run in the first.
