I have the 1904 Nap Lajoie on my Petco based team in a shuffle the deck 24-team ATG league.

It is a pretty awesome card.

As an added little bonus his clutch rating is plus 8/plus 7 (v Lefties, v Righties), according to Diamonddope.com

I am considering upgrading by using his 1901 card.

The Diamonddope site (which is totally amazing and awesome) doesn't have the 1901 Lajoie card listed, so I am not sure about the clutch rating for 1901, or how to evaluate the 1901 card's extra value overall against the extra 1.86 m cost.

Any advice on whether to upgrade Lajoie?

U have more clutch with the cheaper card but more power with the expensive card.
Is it worth more?

Depends where ya bat him, IMO.

Most lead him off and ya don't worry too much about the + clutch difference.
(or hit him in the 2 hole)

I use the cheaper card.

You don't need DD to figure clutch (or anything else, for that matter)....though it does make it easier. Look at the card. Dollar signs ($) turn outs into hits or hits into outs in clutch situations. From the card in question: $3-gb(ss)A. So that is a +2 clutch. If it was a $6-gb(ss)A that would be a +5 clutch. If it was a $4-Single (cf) that would be a -3 clutch. Add up all of the clutch situations on one side of a card for the overall. Wanna practice on a bad clutch card? See Ken Griffey Sr. 1977. It looks like that Nap 1901 is +4.

for all the doubles and triples, I bat him middle of the order. exception the 8.78 (i think) card...the one with sub-.500 slugging...that maybe is a #2

The triple crown card is just too gaudy. And now to hijack.... Check out this 1st ever Triple Crown League in which every manager uses a triple crown winning card+Ted and Musial '46. It's got some rules to normalize the playing pool which will allow these studs to be just that. It seems like whenever I suggest a league it goes flat 'cause of all of my rules ;)
