From the May 30th:
"For example, if you have Hanley Ramirez (3B) and Matt Holliday (LF) checked to remove it will find and replace both players as long as the overall defense improves. "

This isn't how I want it to work, and it's not how it's worked in the past. If I have Wagner and Gibson at SS and C, I may have a better defensive catcher, but often a worse rated SS. I still want to the 15 game injury guys out of the game no matter what.

I can't be the only guy bringing Charlie O'Leary as a sub for Hans?

I agree. Sometimes I have a player checked to remove for defensive sub to protect from injury more than to get better defense. Usually if I want defensive replacement for better defense I list the defensive replacement in the team settings.

I've seen cases where HAL removes a catcher because I checked the box. Then he realizes that he already used the other catcher as a pinch hitter and there's no one else eligible to catch. He ends up putting Mike Schmidt as a catcher which of course then requires Dave Kingman to play third base.
The lesson I learned is to be very careful checking the box!
