Trying this out--

PostFri Jul 26, 2013 7:30 am

Still relatively new to Statro and I saw a similar team that interest me on the boards. My team is drafted and now going to throught the waver process.

Little nervous trying to attack the league this way, so if anyone has any thoughts, I'd certainly love to hear.

Thanks!

Ya need only 1 LH'er in the pen.
And you're gonna need at least 1 RP that is decent to close out tough games.
I'd move Walsh or Tiant to like a Joe Wood/ David Cone type and grab a RP.

Hitting wise, ya gonna need at least a switchy or lefty in that lineup. I hate seeing Doc Medich or Ed Farmer pitch to this team...

Rgod - first of all, I'm honored, as that is my demented "The Defense Rests" strategy. A few things:

- Get a good backup who can play 1st or 3rd, since Cal and Bags are both big injury risks. I like Fregosi, but others are available
- If there's another $10M+ RH SP instead of Tiant, I'd get him - just don't like the relatively higher HRs and XBHits
- Ditch Hess for a RH - in Minute Maid, I wouldn't go lefty. Mike Garcia is a nice choice in that 7M range, or you could get a reverse righty in case you face a lot of lefty bats.
- Agree on the lefties in the pen - Joe Heving at $0.80 has been outstanding for me, but there's probably a couple others.
- You don't need a big RP - just set the starters to slow hook, and the top 3 to do not relieve before F0
- You absolutely do not need a LH bat. Several versions of this basic theme have won 100+ games three times for me and multiple titles without a single lefty or switch hitter on the team.
- I might consider swapping Davis for a bigger bat unless you like the D in center - it's just that Davis won't hit all that much

Good luck with this group - they're a lot of fun to watch.
