In case you didn't see this posted in "Garcia's Blog" ...

Live Drafts coming soon

It will be interesting to see what the response from the SOM online community will be. No doubt things will be booming for a while. A smart decision to increase business. I suspect there is a lot of "pent-up demand" for live drafts, and many of our old-timers who've stopped playing recently will return. I for one consider this a huge upgrade from the TSN version. I didn't like the unlimited budget aspect, and being able to have salary caps will make it better. I also hope waivers will not apply for live draft leagues.

Thanks for posting this I missed it.

This is good news. Cant wait to try the new live draft application when it becomes available

Hope there is a way of communicating with other managers during the draft. That was part of the fun of the live draft.

read it but I don't understand the statement about Ruth where it states " you will not be stuck with one year/card?" if you draft ruth now you can then adjust to any of his cards. what am I missing?

If I remember in the previous live draft you were only able to draft the highest valued player of multiple cards.......

that makes sense. with no cap, the most expensive cards were the ones taken

IMHO,

This will only be welcome news if it also coincides with an attempt to really acknowledge that the community IS the game, and some serious steps need to occur to repair damages.

But, hey, what do I know? :?

Hal Richman understands one thing - money. If he makes money off the feature, it will continue to be available.

It went beyond just that it made sense to draft the most expensive version. It meant for example that you could not draft Mossi to pitch in relief. You could draft Mossi but he would be automatically slotted in to a starter slot and you would still have to draft an additional reliever to satisfy the roster rules about drafting a minimum number of relievers. Or say you wanted to draft Chance and use him as your backup catcher. No can do. The more expensive card could not play catcher and that is the one you would get assigned. So you would still have to draft another catcher wasting that pick because as soon as draft was over you were going to swap out the Chance card and drop that useless catcher.

Now maybe Mossi and Chance are not the best choices if you wanted to win but they illustrate the situation. They were the first to come to mind to illustrate the importance of this feature. So I used them. I am sure those who played live drafts a lot could name better examples.

The significance of being able to draft any version of any card and slot them for any position listed on card is very important. The inability to do this was one of the reasons I did not participate in live drafts.
