They aren't used in the online game, by my understanding

According to the posted rules, closer ratings are used in the recent (1999 - present) and the 90s mystery card set. Not in ATG sets or the other mystery card sets or 1986. I think I remember having a closer rated guy the one time I played a1999 league, but mostly I play ATG so I had to look this up.
