Franchise allstar teams and new cards

Had a thought that might make for interesting discussion. Often when new cards are discussed people request some cards because they feel a particular franchise is not well represented. A valid point imo. If one is doing a franchise theme league one should have available the best that franchise has to offer.

So what if we suggested and discussed allstar teams for each franchise based on individual seasons. For example one would not simply say the OF for the Cardinals should be Musial, Brock, and Slaughter but would need to specify which season. So one might have to say the Cardinals OF should be Brock74, Musial48, Slaughter48. Not saying that is what the Cardinal OF would be just throwing those out as an example.

If you have trouble deciding between 2 player-seasons for a given position suggest choosing the player who had the better career with that team. For example maybe you are choosing between a season from Dunn and a season from Thomas for 1B on the White Sox. Choose Thomas because he played more games for the White Sox and his career was more relevant in White Sox history.

On the assumption that anyone deserving franchise allstar should be a candidate for a new card anyone you list who is not already available should be highlighted. That would make it easy for Bill to scan this thread if he wants and add anyone missing from his list to his list. To that end I suggest the following color scheme.

Black = a card we already have
Green = a card we do not have but which is in Bill's spreadsheet of requested seasons.
Red = a card which we do not have and is not in Bill's spreadsheet of requested seasons.

To help give people a jumping off point here is a link that might help you think over what seasons should be included for a specific team.

I assume such a list exists for all MLB teams. Trick is to change the team name and guess correctly what MLB used for the 3 team abbreviation. I was able to guess right on all but the Angels and White Sox.

If anyone is willing to make their guesses on those two, test and post the links for other teams I will update this posting to include the link instead of the team name.

http://mlb.com/cws/history/all_stars.jsp is white sox
http://mlb.com/ana/history/all_stars.jsp is angels

One thing I noticed for the Rangers is that the page does not include Senators from 1961-1971. Not that there were a lot to choose from but probably the same with Orioles (Browns and George Sisler) may not be shown on those pages. I tried to search for Senators all stars but could only find year by year lists not player lists.

ETA - the lists I could find for the Senators were on baseball-reference.com like http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams ... star.shtml but that is only the batters, the pitchers have their own page. So I don't know if that is a good place or if another is out there that is better.

Thanks Davesodu. Links for White Sox and Orioles updated.
Good catch on the Senators and Browns not being included.

Once upon a time there was a checkbox you could click to follow a thread and get notified by email whenever someone replied. Is that gone now or am I just overlooking it?

Up in the upper right corner there's a little thingie that says subscribe to this topic if you mouse over it.

I tried it once but it didn't work, so I don't know what the status of it is.

Since Franchise Leagues take up 75% of my time, I've often requested cards that would add to more franchise "integrity", for lack of a better word.

For instance, Jim Lemon, the power source for the 1950s Senators, apparently toiled in such anonymity that he is not even represented in ATG.
Hank Thompson, who played in the Negro Leagues before going on to be an important part of the NYGiants if the early 1950s, is not represented either.
There are many others......
I'm in favor of rectifying the cards we need from those earlier days, and then adding cards to fill out the Blue Jays, Padres, angels, mariners, expos, etc..... And THEN maybe start adding Dbacks and Rockies and such.

Jim Fregosi 1964 - OPS+ of 141 in 591 PA's, made the AS team (also every year from 66 through 70).
