Instead of creating a few new cards that nobody really cares about and being left with still using the other 99% all of the time how about creating something that may generate renewed interest?
Lets wipe out those random great years from relative unknowns and multiple card players. I would be very interested if SOM did a lifetime version card set using career totals averaged out to a 162 game season. 1 card for every player (or 2 if the player happened to pitch and be a position player like Ruth), averaged out to what they really were as a player. The truly great players would be at the top salary wise, no confusion with multiple cards, no dropping and picking up different versions of the same player etc.
This would at the very least create a new interest being that there are only so many more cards they can actually add to the existing version. ATG 8 would be entirely different, not just an extension of all the previous versions. In addition it would curb some of the ridiculous season totals we see as career averages would be well below the "monster" years players put up. Ruth would still be Ruth but instead of 100 HR seasons we'd see more 70's and 80's in the right park.
I realize there may be other sims out there that do this already (I'm guessing, don't know for sure) but I don't care about those, I'm talking here in strat land. Are there any other opinions out there on this? Has it been brought up before? I'd like to get some feedback on this if its something others would be interested in?
