Ballpark vs Balance

What is more important to match up when you have a platoon?

Let's say you have a Dick Allen (Righty, 9L) and Jim Thome (Lefty, 6R) platoon.

You are facing a LH starting pitcher in Penmar (9-9-17-2). Clearly Thome is made for the park and Allen is made to face the pitcher. So what is more important?

Does it matter what the balance of the opposing pitcher is?

Forget about it dude, I'm not giving Thome up. Yeah, I preferred Allen but Hodges is a good consolation to platoon with Thome.

LOL, I know*. It's just a question I've been wondering for some time as I seem to be employing more platoons than usual lately. Allen and Thome where just at the front of my brain (for reasons that you know!)

*Unless Thome for Nettles, Sosa, $5 off Five Guys, and 100 free hours on AOL gets it done.

**BTW, I would have considered sending Allen your way just as easily if there was a way for either of us to get a suitable replacement

***BTW, What do you know about Nettles? I can't think of a single time I've seen anyone use him. I gotta bad feeling...

I used to use him as a platoon guy in ATG 2-4 at lower caps. But I don 't think a whole lot of him at 999M. I would, however, be happy to improve your team by giving you English and Hodges for Allen. :D

To answer the question posed by talent hoarder, my natural instinct is to say the ballpark matters more.

Allen in Minute Maid gives you 53 RC and 46 BR v. LHP
Allen in Penmar gives you 35 RC and 36 BR v. LHP.

The ballpark is the ballpark, and obviously it doesn't change during the game, like pitching match ups can. So, IMHO, trying too hard to get the perfect match up v. a SP while essentially disregarding ballpark effects could come back to bite you in the ass. @ EOD it's a 50/50 chance the roll lands on the pitcher card, it's a 100% chance that ball park effects come into play, when ball park effects come into play.

Interesting question though. The drop off for Allen in Penmar v. LHP (opposed to say MinMaid) is not nearly as bad as Thome's drop off in the wrong park. Basically you'd have to crunch the numbers for each individual pitching match up per park.

Let me know what you come up with. Honestly that is one reason I go extreme one way with my line ups if I'm in an extremely unbalanced park. I'd rather platoon two LHBs in Penmar than a LH/RH combo.

Don't know if this will help you as to what you're looking for but here's a Nettles/Brosius platoon in a 200M franchise league in Yankee '56. I've been happy with their performance but, naturally, they are just a supporting cast to some bigger prima donnas. A-Rod wasn't available because Texas had first dibs on him.
