How do they figure it for playoffs. I'm battling a guy in another division.

In a 2 way tie..head to head is first tie breaker...run differential is second tie breaker..coin flip is last tie breaker

Two way tie:
1.Head to Head
2. Division Record

I am pretty sure division record is the second tie breaker even if you are in separate divisions.

Here are the rules:

Tiebreakers for a 2-way tie are, in order:
- Head-to-head record
- Run differential
- Coin flip
Tiebreakers for a 3-way tie are, in order:
- Best record vs. teams within division
- Run differential
- Coin flip

One good thing about these rules is that "Run differential" virtually eliminates the coin flip. It would be rare for 2 teams to have exactly the same run differential. I'm partial to run differential as a criterion because it does seem to me to be a meaningful way to differentiate team performance.

Have these rules changed recently,or ever? Because I swear division record used to be the second tie breaker, even when teams where in separate divisions.

I don't think the tie-breaker rules ha've changed in a long time. I remember that my first ever Strat team made the playoffs as the wildcard over a team in my division. We were tied for wins, and tied head to head, but my guys won the second tie-breaker on run differential.

It's all clearly etched in my brain, and that was at least 1/2 dozen years ago.

Is it the run differential in games played between the two tied teams or the overall total team run differential?

Overall team run differential. It's the number you see in the league standings under Diff, so it's easy to check. Team vs. team, which is the first tie-breaker, can be checked under "Head-to-Head" in the league menu.
