Play Ball: Stories of the Ball Field” (Emery & Hughes, Boston, 1888) by Mike “King” Kelly (1857-94), a right fielder and catcher for the Boston Beaneaters and later the Boston Reds, will be offered for $10,000 by Brattle Book Shop at the Boston International Antiquarian Book Fair. The paperback, which cost 10 cents and was the first autobiography by a baseball player, was ghostwritten by John J. “Jack” Drohan, a Boston Globe baseball writer.
