ATG Poll #4- PREWAR ERA TEAMS

PostThu Jul 09, 2015 4:13 pm

Please read here for more information.

One pre-war team will have their players added to ATG. Users can vote for their favorite team to add in this poll and two expansion era teams to be added in a separate poll here.

The poll ends on Thursday, July 16th, so make sure to get your votes in before then!

Check baseball-reference.com or some other site to see who is available with each squad.

I'll stump for Bibb Falk's best year (Maybe the best player from the Prewar era that's not in the set) along with Johnny Mostil's best season (2nd in MVP vote)

Don Hurst and Chuck Klein had a nice year, as did some other Phillie hitters. Pitching is weak, and that's an understatement.

Rip Radcliff had a good year for the Browns, and Wally Judnich had power and average and is a 2(-1) in each OF spot.

For some reason, while there are a lot of great EXP teams, these PRE teams seem like a pretty lackluster bunch.

1940 Browns = 67 - 87
1932 Phillies = 78 - 62
1926 White Sox 81 - 72

Anyway, I voted for the Phillies because they seem to have some usable hitters.

The White Sox and Phillies have lots of interesting players. Love to have either of those teams in ATG. The '40 Browns, not so much.

The World Champion 1926 Cards might make a nice team, someday:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/STL/1926.shtml

There are a number of players nowhere in the current set who have nice years, including Les Bell, Billy Southworth, Ray Blades, and Taylor Douthit
There are also additional cards for Hornsby (probably cheap) and Bottomley, and a cheapo card for Pete Alexander, along with some pitching cards that might prove usable. Anyway, someday.

I voted for the Browns. Unlike when we vote for single players, we are not looking for superstar players but a team full of lower priced options for bench players or lower cap leagues. The Browns seem perfect for that.

What teams would excite you Frank? Most teams are full of regular, midrange players. We have many of the best individual seasons already. This vote is to help add value for lower caps and subs, and help some of the franchise groupings that are weak.

Then add individual players to the weaker franchises to make them competitive. I get the lower cap issue and I am all for it. I just feel that adding some weaker teams better players or teams that don't have enough would help in the Franchise Theme Leagues you and 2city run. Take Colorado for instance you can add the following for starters to fill positions.
C: Chris Iannetta 2008
2B: Eric Young 1996
3B: Vinny Castilla 1998
LF: Carlos Gonzalez 2010/Matt Holliday 2007/Dante Bichette 1995
CF Ellis Burks 1996
SP: Ubaldo Jimenez 2010
RP: Brian Fuentes 2008
RP: Manny Corpas 2007

This just names a few.
A player that would be perfect for both the lower caps and several teams would be Jamey Carroll. He has cards from 2004/2006/2010 to choose from and has played for Montreal/Washington, Colorado, Cleveland, LA Dodgers, Minnesota and the KC Royals. Talk about one player able to fill needs. This is just my 2 cents.

Some of those franchise groupings hardly have enough players to create a team. The PRE Phillies and PRE White Sox just need some PLAYERS. But, for example, I'd like to see the EXP White Sox and Twins get some additions before we start filling out Dbacks and Rockies and Rays and Marlins squads.
