One for Mort

PostSat Feb 20, 2016 9:10 am

For those of you who remember Mort (Moriarity, my brother John), who passed away three-plus years ago, he just got himself back into ATG news with a 22-game winning streak.

Playing in a roblongjr theme league -- one SP and one hitter $11 or less, all other players $6 or less, team located in a New Mexico town with a cowboy name -- I chose the town of Moriarty and named Moriarity as the manager. The team started 8-4 and then won 22 in a row before tapout632's crew ended the run last night.

Nothing special about the team (only the manager's handle), it just hit everything right for a week.

Great start Mike.

I remember a few years back doing the Weekly live drafts with Mort and others including Salt and how much fun it was. I used to drink Wild Turkey 101 while drafting and the others would mention Blatz. I guess we don't have it in Texas as I had never heard of it. The drafts must have been slower then because we had more conversations and bonding during the live draft process then we do now. Those were the golden days of the live draft era at strat.

Nice tribute to your brother, Mike. I drank some Blatz in my younger days but suspect it has gone the way of Schlitz, Gunther, Arrow and a number of others. If it's still in existence, I'd raise more than one for Mort.

Apparently Blatz is still around (but only in states that begin with I (except Idaho)), Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan).

So, a round on the house....Thanks, Hal!
