HAL???? are you gettin' senile???

PostMon Mar 21, 2016 11:43 pm

Okay, sooooo, tight game.

Down by 2 runs in the 8th...
HAL for some reason brings in .50 Joe Deberry to finish 2 outs in the 8th inning. okay-- im down by 2, no worries.
AND I score twice to tie it up in the ninth, HAL does not bring in Quis (designated closer) who was rested, or anyone else but leaves in Deberry to give up a walk and 2 straight hits and loses the game. :x :x :x

BUT dont worry folks, we really don't need bullpen 3...its perfectly cool to leave your closers on the bench :? :?

I would be curious to see what the rest of the pitching staff was. How many more bullpen options did HAL have? What roles were assigned to the remaining relievers? What were HAL's options going to be if the game went extra innings?

that would have been a perfect time to have a tied and late pitcher set. which, I never ever used myself btw.

Sutter pitched in games 43 and 44 and in game 44 he went 5 innings. Since he has the bulk of your saves so far, are you sure you aren't brain farting when you say Quis is the closer ?

Moose-- there are two closer slots.

1. SUTTER
2. QUIS

Yes, Sutter pitched the game before and was tired.
Quis did not enter the previous game at all.

there was a 3rd bp option that had also not pitched in the prior game in Klipstein--
Had Quis also been tired, and HAL left in Deberry over Klip that would be more understandable given that Klip is not in the closer slot.

WE NEED BP3!
Again, 3 Straight batters get on base with ZERO outs at what point would it have been reasonable for him to be removed?

I thought the closer setting wasn't used in ATG since there are no close ratings?
If Quis was set for tied and 9th would he have been put in?

Thats the Max outs thing with closers, the actual closer designation in your BP setting is in use.

IF I had Maximize set in my team settings then it might make sense that Quis doesn't enter the game, but since thats not the case there is no reason for him to be sitting with the game on the line.
One shouldn't have to designate for your worse pitcher to not stay in the game once he starts giving up hits in a tie game in the ninth.

I certainly won't argue that an upgrade to the bullpen logic wouldn't be nice.

That being said, Deberry is 8R. The only other option (while still better) is 3L. I believe every hitter Deberry faced was right handed. A few things come to mind: Does Hal automatically prefer an 8R over a 3L when there role is not defined? Was Hal keeping Klippstein till a lefty came up? Since Clear and McClure had already been used, Klippstein was your last 'fresh' pitcher available and maybe Hal is hesitant to use him when it looks to him like he already has a favourable matchup.

Jet--

Dan Quisenberry was the option that should've been used.
He was FRESH--
If it was an issue of either Deberry or Klip then I wouldn't have posted,

BUT Quisenberry was just sitting there, hadn't pitched at all the previous game.

It must be getting senile. Usually games have started running about 15-20 minutes ago. Tonight so far nothing.
