Starter in extra innings

PostSun Apr 10, 2016 9:57 am

My game 3 starter Tom Glavine pitched an inning in relief in game 2. How much effect, if any, will it have on him starting game 3 of a finals series? Should I bump my #4 up a game because he is rested? Not sure if I want him to pitch game 3 and a possible game seven. Anyone have any experience with this?

If he was fully rested before that it will have little effect, I frequently use Babe Adams and Ed Ruelbach as both relievers and starters interspersing their starts and have not noticed an effect, as an example here is Ruelbach after relieving in the two previous games (68-69) and then starting game 70 and pitching a no hit shutout

Of course that doesn’t guarentee anything other than not destined to be bad, dice can always get you, here is the log of all of Ruelbach’s outings you can see how he did after relieveing, once he starts though he won’t go back in to relieve unless emergency or 4 full days rest.
