Bunting for a home run?

PostTue May 10, 2016 10:44 am

Here is the link to the game. The first batter in the 1st inning (Ott), bunts and hits a home run. No error(s) on the play. How is this possible. I know he's mighty, but come on.

Clearly this is one of those strato "rare plays" where Ott throws a potato deep into the outfield after squibbing the ball just off home plate. Fielders are clearly confused and running after the potato.

I remember reading many years ago about a minor league catcher who took a potato on the field and threw it in to left field to trick a runner in to trying to score. So jfreeman's idea might be the valid explanation.

I imagine if you sent an email to strat that you would get back one of those it was a display error explanations if you heard back at all.
