in your draft order, you have set a 9 mil, rhb RF to be picked. someone before you was given that player. will HAL then give you the closest salaried RF, the closest salaried rhb RF, or just the closest position player in salary(don't think this is the case)? since your player was 9 mil, but there is another rhb RF available at 9,3 mil that no one else has in his draft, will HAL give you that player or not because he costs more than your original selection?

The way I understand the rule (and I readily admit I could be wrong), if someone else gets your pick then you'll get the next highest salaried guy with the same primary position who is not on anybody's draft list. That means that if your picked a RF who bats R with a secondary position of LF (and that's where you planned to slot him in your lineup) at $9M, you might wind up with a LHB RF with a salary of $8.3 whose secondary position is 1B, because the two RHB RF guys at 8.9 and 8.7 were both on someone else's card. And yeah, I just made up all the details cause I'm too lazy to go look at the database.

in some instances he has to give you a more expensive player. i've seen teams over the cap after the draft and heading into waivers.

You can end up far down the list when you miss your pick, particularly in $200 MM leagues. Lots of guys new to the 24-team $200 MM leagues put Bonds, Ruth, Gibson, Mantle, Hornsby, Maddux, etc. at the top of their AD list, assuming that the missed picks are filled round by round. In fact they usually end up with 8 million guys or less since the subs are not assigned until the entire draft has been run. At lower caps, this isn't usually as much of a problem.
Another of my gripes about the AD is that if you miss on a SP, you will get a 4-day or 5-day guy randomly. 4-day starters and 5-day starters should have their own separate queues. This particularly irks me since I use a lot of 5-man rotations in ATG leagues.
You should be allowed to check some boxes along with your draft list. I would recommend that the following check boxes be provided for all AD leagues.
1. Do not replace 4-day starters with 5-day starters.
2. Do not replace 5-day starters with 4-day starters.
3. Do not replace LH batters with RH batters.
4. Do not replace RH batters with LH batters.
