If the Cubs finish what seems like has been their destiny this season and win the World Series, does that earn Theo a place in the Hall of Fame as one of the all-time great general managers in baseball? Even though he's Jewish, I'm sure enough fans in Boston and the north side of Chicago could plead with the Pope to consider him for sainthood ...

How many times does the team with best record in regular season win the Series? Not many....

Even if they don't win the series, he should be in. Resurrecting two moribund historical franchises in less than 5 years to be perennial contenders should make him a slam dunk.

Actually, I think they'll win one sometime soon, I just think that in handicapping the playoffs, I'd take the field over the Cubs (or any other single team)

Let's just say Theo didn't exactly resurrect the Padres during his short tenure.

I hear Theo was receiving treatment for a sprained ankle from the Padres, but they didn't report that to the Red Sox before Theo went there.

There's a long way to go for the Cubs to win the World Series. Anything can happen in the short sample of playoffs. It seems like the Cubs winning the WS has been predestined since the spring -- but it's not that easy. That said, yes, if they win, he is unique among GMs and HOF material.

His greatest accomplishment is making it so we don't have to hear about Billy Beane and Moneyball anymore.

So, what's next -- The Cleveland Indians?
