Replacements for Injured LF or RF (only CFs on bench)

PostSun Feb 12, 2017 10:00 pm

The online game goes by the super-advanced rules I believe, but I'm not sure it follows those rules when there's an injury to a corner outfielder and there isn't a replacement at that specific position on the bench.

For example: you have Ricky Henderson playing left and no other left fielders on your squad. He goes down for 12. You have a couple of center fielders on the bench - the only outfielders on the bench - and neither has left as a position on their card.

According to the super-advanced rules, one of the center fielder would take over and his defensive rating would stay the same: same grade, same arm, same error rating.

The same thing would happen if your right fielder went down and one of the CFs on the bench had to fill in.

Does the same happen here?

I looked it up.

It's not a separate rule for the advanced or super-advanced game, but part of the standard, basic rules. According to the "How to Play Strat-O-Matic Baseball" rule book, rule 25 covers injuries and the outfielder exception to players playing out of position getting the worst defensive rating is rule 25.21, which directs you to an "outfield adjustment chart."

According to the chart, if a centerfielder must play LF or RF because you don't have another LF or RF on your bench, there is no change to his rating.

If an RF has to play LF for similar reasons, there is no adjustment. If he has to play center, +1 is added to his range rating.

If an LF has to play RF, it's a +1. If CF, a +2.

Amen. I wish they would incorporate that rule here! With the computer game you can play a CF only in LF no problem, which is how it should be.
