In game 3 my catcher gets hurt for the 3rd out in the bottom of the 8th with my team leading 3-2. The logical move is insert my defensive sub Pena and at C, and any other def subs as well. Instead HAL moves King Kelly to C, then removes him for Hinchman who is not on the defensive sub list and then inserts 2 of my 3 def subs. Although we lost the game due to other circumstances this is just bad computer logic! I am sick to death of this stuff happening.

Did you have Kelly checked under "remove for defense with a lead"?

Nope, Joe Kelley should've been replaced by Kiddo Davis and King Kelly should've stayed in right.

Then I don't have a clue. That was the only thing I could think of.

HAL made the decision to put Kelly at catcher when the injury occurred because there are plenty of options for right field and that decision was made when the injury occurred and you were on offense. Now HAL did not look ahead to who was the defensive catcher should be, which is bad but that is how the programming is set up apparently as you were not yet in the field.
Then the ninth inning starts and HAL sees you want PENA as a defensive sub and so substitutes him for King Kelly. I am assuming for this that you have PENA set as a defensive sub for catcher, which really I don’t understand as your regular catcher is just fine, otherwise you have King Kelley as remove for defensive sub, which in a 75 million league is not a good move either as his defense is not bad enough to pull his offense out of the game, and almost always leads to bad decisions made by HAL. I avoid that setting like the plague because HAL will pull Kelly out and put in the worst fielding catcher in the world in there just to pull Kelly from the game. Other than that I think you team looks all right.

Charlie, as I said before, King Kelly is not set as remove for defensive sub...at all! Joe Kelley is the one who should be removed and if HAL cannot tell the difference between the two the programming is bad. Also as it was the third out I was in the field as soon as the play was over.
My defensive subs are Pena (which maybe is questionable since the only gain is -1 arm) K Davis for Kelley and Tannehill for Molitor. Also as I understand, in a small lead game the defense is inserted, which it was not, instead HAL's programming REMOVED a player who should've been in the game as part of the defensive alignment and inserted a worse fielder. I have sent an email to strat, we'll see if they respond with an explanation. If it's indeed the same as yours and HAL replaced Ferrell with Kelly for the reasons you've stated, IT IS BAD PROGRAMMING!!
