New league forming. Franchise ATG 1901-1946

PostThu May 25, 2017 5:07 pm

....

Season 1 is in full swing.

We will be starting season 2 soon!!! We have a spot open for YOU!

If you want in ...after reviewing all the dialog about what this league is about...then go to the last posts in this thread (page 4) for details on how to join season 2.

....
Hello, I was born in 1962. I consider myself a family man. I grew up in New Jersey. I live in South Carolina now. I have been running Strat-o-Matic board game leagues and fantasy baseball leagues since 1981. So I am no rookie in setting up and running this type of league and running it well.

Trust me, if you join, you won't be sorry. This promises to be a great, long running series of leagues. Season after season. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year.

Fun rivalries will develop over time as we get to know each other.
My goal is that this won't be your typical 365 league where you really don't know anyone...and you're playing with 11 "strangers".
My goal is that this league becomes a group of tight nit Strat brothers...
This will happen naturally over time as we keep playing season's in this format with each other.

It's a "franchise ATG pre WW2" league. We will be using the ATG pre WW2 set of cards.
But only cards from 1901 to 1946 in the set.
Only cards tied to specific team franchises.
We will also only be using 1941 stadiums.
The stadiums are "tied" to the franchises.
12 teams in our league each season
No DH.
80 million cap
Add drop Transactions allowed up to game 142
Trading not allowed.
Free agent drop 5/10/20
Random divisions.

Drum roll please...here's the biggie...

*** we all play with a Usage Rule ... ALL Players cards are capped at 120% of their real life at bats or innings pitched.
We will be policing each other. And you need to police yourself. This rule will be strictly enforced.
***

Trust me. You will be amazed at how much "fun" strategy and "work" this adds to the league!!!

I realize this is not for everyone. But if you are like me, a person who loves extra strategy...and you are detail oriented, this league is for you!!!

Strat-o-Matic "in season auto pilot gamers" please do not apply. No hard feelings...but...This is not a league for you.

One franchise per GM. (More on this below...as to what cards can actually be on your roster)*

If interested email me at ctf1995@yahoo.com

Please don't post here in this thread if you want to join the league...It's a prerequisite to play To email me and give me your phone number.
Your email and phone number will stay in confidence with me (unless YOU want to post it for all at the private league website). That's your call.
I need your email and phone number because I may need to contact you before or during the season to talk about something related to the league and I don't want to be handicapped with having to wait for you to check a forum page if I have a quick question for you.

The available franchises are:

1901-1946 Chicago NL playing in 1941 Wrigley Field
1901-1946 New York AL playing in 1941 Yankee Stadium
1901-1946 Pittsburgh NL playing in 1941 Forbes Field
1901-1946 Boston AL playing in 1941 Fenway Park
1901-1946 Cincinnati NL playing in 1941 Crosley Field
1901-1946 Chicago AL playing in 1941 Comiskey Park
1901-1946 Detroit AL playing in 1941 Briggs Field
1901-1946 Boston NL playing in 1941 Braves Field
1901-1946 Brooklyn NL playing in 1941 Ebbets Field
1901-1946 Washington AL playing in 1941 Griffith Stadium
1901-1946 Cleveland AL playing in 1941 League Park
1901-1946 New York NL playing in 1941 Polo Grounds
1901-1946 Philadelphia AL playing in 1941 AL Shibe
1901-1946 Philadelphia NL playing in 1941 NL Shibe
1901-1946 St. Louis AL playing in 1941 Sportsman's AL
1901-1946 St. Louis NL playing in 1941 Sportsman's NL

Only these franchises (and carded players in the years 1901 to 1946)...by team they played on that year...and the 1941 park that goes with that franchise are available to be "drafted" each season. No mixing and matching.

Email me at ctf1995@yahoo.com to get in on this.
843-269-4030 is my cell phone.

each season...we will only be using 12 of the above 16 franchises.

If you are awarded a franchise, for that specific upcoming season, when the computer auto draft and free agent frenzy settles out, all your players must be from that team that card year.

Players who played on multiple teams...their franchise rights for that season...will be settled through the auto draft and the free agent frenzy.
So, for example, the Cardinal GM wants Rogers Hornsby...his 1922 card. And the Cub GM wants Rogers Hornsby too...his 1929 card. Well, the Auto Draft, when run ...will decide this. If the Cubs GM gets Hornsby, he can only use his 1929 card, since the other two cards in the set...his 1922 card and his 1924 card were "Cardinal cards".

Players are locked in the set...and their availability to which franchise...based on their real life card year.

* Point of clarification – if a player played for a team (e.g. NY Giants or Braves) during 1901-1946, but does not have a Strat card for "a NY Giants or Braves" year you may NOT draft him for the Giants or Braves. For example, Rogers Hornsby currently has cards in the set...several from years with the Cardinals (1922 and 1924) and one card for a year with the Cubs (1929). If you're the Giants GM or Braves GM you can not have Hornsby. (He actually had a nice year for the Giants in 1927 and a nice year for the Braves in 1928).
Maybe in a future ATG set they will add a Giants or Braves card year for him, but at this time, he can not be a Giant or Braves in our league.
Some franchise leagues advertised here would allow the Giants or Braves GM to auto draft Hornsby and allow them to use any Hornsby card...We do not allow that in this league.

Strat 365 already has in its league set up... a way to search players by team. This makes things a lot easier for all of us. And keeps things relatively simple. Simple to search for players in the league by team once you join and have a franchise...and you can tweak your roster before the games begin without having the fear that you may be missing or overlooking a player.
In this example...If you are the Boston Braves GM for a specific upcoming season, it's easy to see... as you search players by team ...that as you search through all the available Boston Braves from 1901 to 1946...there is no Rogers Hornsby.
The old KISS acronym I think is best when we are setting up a league like this.
Easy to set up your roster. Easy for you and others in the league to police your team...that it's legal.
No Baseball Encyclopedia required!
No losing sleep that you overlooked a stud you could have drafted if you did more baseball history homework!

So...again...Rights to a player that played on multiple teams in the set, and have multiple cards with different teams...
Their rights go to the GM ...
First, through the auto draft...
Next, through the waivers...
Then, through free agent frenzy. First come first serve.

This is one reason why I might need to email you or call you...is in case you have made an accidental mistake with your roster. We will be policing each other.

I will also be contacting you if you are getting close inadvertently to our max usage rule during the season.

Before the new season, Once we have 12 Managers, we will set up a specific Sunday when you will need to join the private league.
The following Monday the league will kick off with the first three games.
So..the draft will run one upcoming Sunday night...then waivers...and then we will each have almost one full week to tweak our rosters through the frenzy period.

Franchises will be randomly placed into divisions.

As you build your team for a specific upcoming season, Your team name must match your franchise and your park.
For example, if you get the St. Louis Cardinals, that is your team name, and you must pick 1941 Sportsman Park NL as your home park.
Your manager name also must be your real life name. In my case, my manager each season, regardless of franchise, will be Chris Franco. This will aid in all of us getting to know each other a little faster....so...no team names like Durham Bulls managed by Earl Weaver.
So, In this case, I would be the St. Louis Cardinals playing in 1941 NL Sportsman's Park managed by Chris Franco and all my players would be players who played on...The St. Louis NL team...with a card year of 1901-1946.

Future seasons we will draft which franchise we get based on reverse order of finish from the prior season.

So we (sort of) have one league starting when another is finishing...we will use reverse order of finish at the 141 game mark.

New GMs that join us, will always after draft returning GMs from the prior season, regardless of their record.

You can, if available, get (draft) the same franchise for more than one season, but there is no guarantee of that.

thanks again to dodger42 for all his awesome ideas...

Your team's name must be your franchise team name (example: Boston Red Sox), no combinations or abbreviation of names are allowed.

Please select your team's home park from the list of 1941 stadiums that match your club franchise.

Your manager's name is to be your real first and last name. Please, no nicknames.

Please fill out your draft list with players that have played with the card year matching your franchise. Babe Ruth 1920 card can not be on the Red Sox. That card can only be on the Yankees.

Please rank your Start 365 auto draft list carefully, the player draft is very important in our league. Many times the Strat-O-Matic players card has only a few seasons listed and may not have all the eligible teams for a particular player.
Babe Ruth may be wanted by both the Red Sox GM and the Yankees GM. The auto draft will determine who has his rights.

Baseball Reference is a very detailed website, I think you will find it helpful with your research, if you need help wondering if a player you are after, ever played for someone else's franchise.

The easiest way to Get ready for the auto draft before one of our seasons, is simply to create a new ATG pre-WW2 league...and searching free agents allows you to search by team... either that team DB (dead ball) or that team PRE (after dead ball to 1946).
What comes up in those two searches match our format perfectly.
Just be careful...only those cards from 1901 to 1946 can be used.
We are not allowing cards from 1900 or prior.
Also the Negro League cards Can not be used. I am a huge fan of the Negro League and its players. Unfortunately they are not a part of this league or format.

After the auto draft, if you have a player that is eligible for your club and is also eligible for another franchise in the league...waivers ...then frenzy...first come first serve as to which GM gets that player's rights.

Trades are not allowed in this league.

Its a first come, first severed free agent pool with all the players that are eligible for your franchise being available immediately after the 365 league waiver claims are processed.

If you create a new ATG pre-WW2 team...it allows you to sort all the available players in the data base by team.

It's one of the advanced sort options when looking at free agents...sort list by team...

A huge time saver for this league format!!!

Dave

Super excited you want to join!
In order to officially get a franchise I need you to email me that team request at ctf1995@yahoo.com
I explain the reason for this being a prerequisite to join the league above.
I know you already corresponded with me via email. All is cool...
Not trying to be a control freak...LOL...
I'm just posting this here now because I don't want other new GMs who want to join...copy and pasting and thinking that that gets them into the league without emailing me...Causing confusion.

Great to have you on board!!

BTW. I'm also showing 1941 Forbes as 10/10/2/2. FYI.
