Playoff Structure Question

PostFri Jul 28, 2017 11:32 am

Question: If it is more or less predictable how the regular season is going to end (division winners, wild-card, and win-loss rankings), is it possible to predict the playoff matchups? This can affect the starting pitching choices for the last series of the regular season.

For example, in the league below, Greenlees (me) will win the west, Trojans the central, Redwings probably the east, and the Mavericks (central) will probably get the wild card. The wins ranking will probably be Trojans-Greenlees-Mavericks-Redwings.

With this information, can we know the matchups? Thanks! -matt aka tmfw30

Well, it's pretty sure that the Effluentos won't make the playoffs---even if they were to tie the Mavericks, they won't have the edge in run differntial.

So 100% sure that you will meet the wildcard that will come out of the Central regardless of who will finish first in the league, because the wildcard team cannot face its own divisional rival in the first round.

(The Top Seed (the team with the best regular season record in the league) plays the Wild Card team in the Semi-Finals, UNLESS the Wild Card is in the same division, in which case the Top Seed plays the Division Winner with the worst record. )
