ALERT: McGee and other 1985 cards wrong in DD

This comment forced me to go over players for whom my ranking system attributed much higher salaries than in SOM. McGee is one of these players. My ranking system had an estimated salary for him in the mid-7M, way over his actual pricetag of 6.65M. It's funny because I had him a few times, and I always thought his stats didn't quite matched up his card, but I attributed this to badd luck. Well, it appears that his card is not as good as it appears.

In this game, McGee faces Drabeck (a rhp) and gets a 3-7, but it ended in a lineout, not a single as the card indicates

http://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/433177/30

In fact, when you look at the color bar underneath the card, it shows that McGee should have 36.25 direct singles (after substracting 1-8 stadiun singles). When you do the maths, it results that McGee card should be read 3-7 si 1-4, lineout 5-20 and vs lhp, 2-4 si 1-7 lineout 8-20.

Not sure if that mistake is the one lastdruid had in mind, because technically, it's not a mistake of DD, but rather of the SOM card.

McGee estimated salary in my ranking system is now at 6.68M, so he's no bargain at all

Grrr, the sad part is that I just let away Ryan Braun in one of my league to make room for McGee

Nope, not McGee. Strat had this weird thing with the 1985 season cards, of which the 3-7 on McGee's card is an example. It is just listed as SI. So not entirely surprised that the card may be off.

The card I have in mind may be correctly priced but the numbers were entered incorrectly such that the diamond dope stats are seriously off on one side of this guys card. I used the card a couple of times and when he repeatedly sucked, re-examined the card and the diamond dope rating of that card and found it to be way off.

So the entire 1985 is off on DD

so now I get why the 1985 Carter looked so good...his rating is even more affected than Mcgee. He had a SI at 7 vs lhp and a SI at 8 vs rhp, likely to be in reality SI 1-4 lineout 5-20

It does appear to affect hitters only

EDIT: correct that, pitchers are affected too

BTW, I just noticed that the color bar under the card represent the natural homeruns (the homeruns on the card if we were NOT playing with the stadium ratings, the advaced rules). For most players, the hr bar is similar to the actual rating if we are playing in a 8-8 hr environment, but some players like Gibson show a hr bar that is exact under a much lower hr environment, and some other like Maris show his card in a ver high hr environment

The 1985 Guerrero card, one of my favorite card, doesn't appear affected vs rhp, but loses 3 singles vs lhp!!! Arrrhhh

Another massive bargain in my ratings for 80M leagues, Lance Parrish, loses more than 3 hits on each side. Ouch!!

But the biggest impact I've seen so far is the 1985 Rickey Henderson card. He looses almost 6 hits vs rhp.

You thought Tony Fernandez had a great bargain card at 2.66M for a ss-1...

Well think again :(

so if I understand correctly, you are saying that the coded card differs from the card displayed? Because I just did a manual input of fernandez on DD and got similar numbers as what the card reader gave me.

1- Card reader of SOM gives for Fernandez vs rhp 23.8 singles, but this includes 2 stadium singles. So in a 0-0-0-0 stadium, it really is 21.8 singles.
2- I take the manual card reader of Diamond Dope, I pick the Zero stadium, I read for Fernandez 25.8 singles. So Diamond Dope has 4 singles too many.

So my guess is that the SI on Fernandez's 6 in reality should be read SI 1-4 Lineout 5-20
