There is a safe guard (much like when you only have one catcher left) that no one can get injured if there are no position players left on the bench. I once encountered a loophole to this. Playing with a 2003 team, and one player left on the bench my dh got injured without getting on base. Later in the inning, another injury came up which HAL allowed because there was still that one player left on the bench. Technically there was no dh. The dh spot did not come up again in that game, but since none of my injured players came back for the next game, HAL started a pitcher, D Dreifort as DH. He batted 9th and went 0 for 2 with a strikeout and a sac. These stats were not included in my offensive totals and Dreifort was not listed among my offensive players. The box score has been deleted. However, that strikeout was recorded for the pitcher pitching, and when you look at the league final offensive and pitching totals you can see that the pitchers' strikeout totals are one K higher than the batters strikeout totals!
