Three True Outcomes

PostSun Jul 15, 2018 8:15 pm

There is this term called "Three True Outcomes" - walk, strikeout and home run - where defense does not factor into the result of an at bat. It got me to wondering, are there any pitchers or hitters who only have the Three True Outcomes on their card? I took a look at the $9.38 Pedro, $7.13 Ryan and Tom Hall cards among non-* SPs, and the $5.78 Wagner among RPs, and they are all close, but the only ones I've seen so far are the $5.53 Eric Gagne card and the JJ Putz card. Any others?

Also, what would happen if a batter with the Three True Outcomes on his card faced a pitcher with the Three True Outcomes on his card? Only three possibilities, right? Not even BP singles come into play. Or am I missing something?

Thanks.

I think what you're missing is that all cards have results that take you to the defensive charts.

This year's All-Star game certainly emphasized the modern-day trend toward this ...

10 Home runs, 10 hits not HR
25 Strikeouts, 35 outs not K
9 walks

According to Baseball Roundtable, this is also referred to as the Trot Index (either trotting around the bases, to first base, or much more slowly back to the dugout). Thru June 35% of all MLB plate appearances have resulted in one of these “trots”. In last nights ASG, it was 49.5%. A pretty good representation of MLB in 2018 I think
