Is it possible to suffer a rash of injuries that leaves you with fewer than nine position players? I know it’s not likely, but I’ve had three or four out simultaneously, so it’s not that much of a stretch. Do pitchers get forced into the field or does HAL step in to keep nine available?

I have had HAL use Rollie Fingers and Steve Carlton as pinch-hitters in a non-dh league when I had run out of position players due to injury. (https://365.strat-o-matic.com/game/438052/494)..but that was for pitchers and I inevitably lost so never saw a pitcher in the field. And certainly nothing like this great Mets-Reds game with McDowell and Orosco exchanging positions:

No. The latest injury will be ignored.
