League rules:
All rules of previous MLB leagues (below) apply with this addition:
The first three players chosen on your team are “drafted” via the Forum. This gives everyone the chance to “choose” three players from your franchise, as opposed to leaving it to random computer choice. We’ll do as Charles has done, choose a number, randomize and then draft a franchise, per options Charles has developed. On the forum we’ll do a team by team draft of the rounds this way: The team that winds up 12th in the randomizer goes first, then up to team 1, who chooses twice and back to 12, who chooses twice, then back to 1. (12 to 1, 1-to 12 and 12 to 1 again). This way the 12th team selected gets first choice of available players. You can “draft” a player who played for your franchise, even if he’s not carded to him. No NeL players in the draft. The rest of the rules are the same as past Major League Baseball rules (below). And same franchises. This adds one twist to the MLB leagues, and may even affect the teams selected by each owner. Why the forum? Easier than trying to set up a specific time everyone can be available, and since we’re doing three rounds it just seems simpler.
Once three players are selected by each team, we do the draft. Everyone puts their drafted players on their team and everyone else avoids them. If it turns out you don’t get your guy, that can be worked out in trade or waivers. But you will be guaranteed those three players. The remaining 22 are drafted the same way as we have in the past.
The rest of the rules (with one change in caps, solely to make it stand out) below:
1. Please enter your member name next to the number of your choice. We will request a neutral party randomization of numbers 1-12 and each manager will select their franchise in numerical order beginning with number 1 and finishing with number 12.
2. Your team's name must be selected from your list of teams, no combinations or abbreviation of names are allowed.
3. Please select your team's home park from the list of different stadiums available for your clubs. Your team and your home park do not have to be the same, as long as one of your teams played their home games in your selected stadium.
4. Your manager's name should reflect a former or current manager of one of your teams.
5. Please fill out your draft list with players that have played in one or more games during their major league career with one of the teams from your selected franchise.
Please rank your draft list carefully, the player draft is very important in our league. Many times the Strat-O-Matic players card has only a few seasons listed and may not have all the eligible teams for a particular player. You will have to do your homework...
Baseball Reference is a very detailed website, I think you will find it helpful with your research.
6. The Negro League cards are not available until waiver claims are made with the exception being if they have played a regular season game with one of the major league teams from your list. If they meet these qualifications you must select the Negro League Star during the initial draft, if you do not the card becomes eligible for all clubs during waivers and you lose the exclusive rights.
If you have more than one Negro League card after initial draft that doesn't meet the eligibility requirements then please release the highest priced Negro League card first from your roster before any other players.
7. After the draft if you have a player that is eligible for your club and is also eligible for another franchise in the league and the same is true for the player your acquiring then a trade prior to the waivers is allowed.
A trade involving a player that is eligible for only one club for another player that is eligible for only one club is not allowed, we prefer that everyone spend the allotted time creating a detailed waiver acquisition list as opposed to trading players that are going to end up on their rightful roster regardless if they are traded or not traded.
You cannot benefit from trading a player that is not eligible to play on your roster, these cards must be released during waiver acquisitions. THE EXCEPTION IS IF YOU HAVE A PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM DRAFTED IN THE FIRST THREE ROUNDS BY ANOTHER TEAM. YOU MAY TRADE THAT PLAYER FOR SOMEONE YOU DRAFTED AND DIDN’T GET, OR ARE DROPPING. THE GOAL IS TO GET THE DRAFTED PLAYERS ON THE RIGHT TEAM ASAP.
8. We can release only one player before waivers however all roster discrepancies are easily corrected with the players that are not eligible for your club being listed as player to be released into free agency during the waiver process which occurs two days after draft at 5:00 PM Eastern.
We ask that everyone place at least two waiver claims for each player on your roster that is not eligible to play for your club. You can choose a less expensive free agent option to improve the odds that your claim will be processed and this will help to assure that your roster will be in compliance immediately after waivers.
By following the waiver guidelines we hope to create a first come, first severed free agent pool with all the players that are eligible for your club being available immediately after the waiver claims are processed.
9. Players injured during a series must serve the the entirety of the injury or if you choose you may release player into free agency. If your player is eligible for other teams they must acquire card showing the current injury, after injury is completed then all seasons are available.
10. The league will load teams based on division beginning with the Eastern Division, if your selection is a Central Division club you will enter league in openings 5, 6, 7, and 8, if your a Western Division club, you have to wait until slots 9, 10, 11, or 12 are available before joining league.
