That's a hell of a team. Bruce Foster would be proud.

The three other teams in the division are a good example about how overspending on the bullpen can kill your chances to win a pennant.

That's the best start I've ever seen.

I once had a team start 0-2 and then reel off 16 wins in a row to start 16-2 in a $100 mil DH league.

Then the injuries hit. Then the slumps and poor pitching performances followed suit.

The team lost 6 games in a row and 9 of 10, then won 6 more games in a row. However, after starting 16-2, and despite the 6 game winning streak, the team won just 12 of the next 42 games. Yes, 12-30, a less than abysmal .286 winning percentage over a period greater than a quarter of the season. They eventually bottomed out at 6 games under .500. I made no player drops or adds to the team throughout the course of the season.

Lamenting my team's fate, I wrote in league mail that "Even a monkey could've picked a team that would win more than 28% of its games."

Eventually the team finished 82-80.

I've had numerous other teams get off to fast starts such as 15-3 and 14-4 and more often than not they followed a similar pattern of injuries and slumps to bring them back down to Earth, but the 16-2 team was the most striking example of crash and burn after a great start. Then again, it was the best start for any of my teams.

This has happened with such frequency that I question whether there is something built into the game engine to prevent teams from winning an inordinate amount of games.

So, congrats on the great start. Enjoy it while it lasts. But don't be surprised if the losses start piling up in rapid fashion.

Streak ended at 19. I have every expectation of a rapid regress to the norm, but it was fun while it lasted.

Speaking of streaks, I just had a team that won their division despite Dennis Leonard going 1-17 on the road. He was 10-5 at home.
