So, you have two relievers -- 2.5 M and 1.5 M -- assigned to various roles. At the halfway point in the season, the 1.5 M guy has much better stats than the 2.5 M guy. Neither is a specialist, both are facing roughly the same batters.

So do you change your preferences to get more innings for the 1.5 M guy based on his performance, even though the 2.5 M guy still has the better overall card? Or do you say, this guy has got the better card, I'm going to keep trotting him out there? To get slaughtered....

Sometimes an early bad outing or two can create the illusion that the guy is failing on a monumental level, when he's actually working back to the mean, his stat line just can't overcome those few early bad outings.

Agreed.

The cards are what they are. There's a reason the cheaper guy is outperforming the more expensive dude. Could be roll distribution or simply bad luck. What it isn't is the actual card.

As stated one or two horrible outings can really skew the numbers.

It depends on the relievers in question. Some of the reliever pricing is out of this world messed up.

That's not a secret code, that's ballpark singles and ballpark home runs.
