Well, it seems that the "at this time" lasted 2 days.

Bruce Sutter was kept sitting on the bench after a day of rest in a 5-2 game, despite my instructions to the contrary. He had pitched 3.1 innings in the previous outing.

Apparantly, same happened here with Ken Sanders. He had pitched 3 innings, rested a day, and was still resting when his team desperately needed him. I am not this team manager, but Sanders leads the league in innings pitched among relievers, so I am well confident that he's instructed to come as often as possible.

But Arroyo (in my team) was fresh and ready after a 3 innings outing and a day of rest. So maybe just my imagination:

Something has changed with starting pitchers too. Vida Blue goes 12 innings. Never saw that before.

For what is worth: both Sutter and Sanders hit the 60 pitches marker before seemingly needing 2 days of rest.

Arroyo had 55 pitches. He needed only 1 game of rest.

The receiving team leads 8-6. Billy Wagner--the 1 inning card---came in the 8th inning. Allows a homerun, it's 8-7. Allows a single, his 3rd hit allowed, his fatigue rating gets down to zero. As expected by traditional rules.

So the situation is: the receiving team leads 8-7, Wagner is in a F0 state. Runner on first.

The bullpen:
Madden, M. (1986) L S5/R3 Threw 72 pitches in game 19. Did not pitch in game 18. Expected to be fresh.
McMahon, D. (1957) R R3 Threw 76 pitches in game 18. Had a fresh rest in game 19. Expected to be fresh.
Nelson, J. (2001) R R1 not available (pitched earlier in the game)
Garber, G. (1985) R R3 not available (pitched earlier in the game)
Littell, M. (1978) R R3 had pitched a cumulative 2 innings in the preceding 2 games. Not expected to be fresh.

Wagner is left there until he allows 10 runs. A sign that McMahon and Madden were not available. And it is Littell who got the call, he entered in a F4 mode.

If as it appears they implemented changes during the course of an active season that would be a huge issue for me. You and everyone else built their teams knowing the way the game was played at the time of the draft. It's not right that they would change things up mid-stream.

I would suggest reaching out to them and see what they say.

I think this may have happened to me. House is set as my closer, setup, middle man, tied in 9th and tied late. Wheeler is set as a second set of those.

House threw 5 innings and 81 pitches in semifinal game 4.

House sat in game 5 as I got shellacked, but Wheeler as an R1 threw 3.2 innings and 55 pitches.

In game 6, I have a 2-1 lead in the ninth, and HAL skips House to go back to Wheeler (who surprisingly came in at F9).

I am not sure how to interpret this, but it seems an odd use of the bullpen.

I've experienced similar things in last several sets of games. It's vexing. But also kind of funny--I catch myself thinking--heck, I guess this is why I need a third or fourth reliever (I pretty much always go with cheap third reliever, and often don't have a fourth reliever).

I like the new ideas that Strat has for reliever changes. I'm all for it especially to the extent the rules are clear.
Part of rules being clear is not making changes in middle of season.

I'm not saying rerun games, just fix it for the balance of our respective seasons.

I experienced an issue where my garbage starter was left until F3 and a 9-run inning before being removed, despite a relatively rested bullpen, roles used correctly, aggressive bullpen. In the past, once a starter is tagged with 5 or more, he’s out. Not anymore, I guess.

with the RP changes, the standard cap will need to be raised to 85 mil minimum preferably 90 mil. u r going to need 2 more RP's. extra inning games and 10 run innings r going to wreak havoc for many games

My teams tonight were not confronted with a situation that could differentiate the traditional ATG bullpen management with the new hypothetical bullpen dealings.

But we'll have a clear shot to understand what's going on with my very next game: Sutter just threw 76 pitches in an emergency situation (my SP got injured) and he is my only available non-mop-up reliever for the upcoming game, with a S5 starting the game. It cannot be better than this

One thing though: SOM didn't fix the reliever-becoming-starter if they indeed fix anything. I just had Duren pitch in a mop-up situation, and he pitched a gem 7 innings 1 run the very next game.

Strat responded to my email about this--very quickly.

They said one string of code was, by accident, not contained to the 2019 set. And that it has been fixed.


The other thing they said is that in ATG 9, that a new reliever duration of 6 will be unveiled and available in the player pool. Babe Adams and Dale Murray will be among those players assigned this new reliever duration, and will naturally have their prices adjusted downwards. Sutter and Arroyo will be assigned "4."
