Injury & lineup question

PostSat Jun 06, 2020 8:57 am

First game of finals tonight. Ted Klu injured for one game. Because two games will be played tonight (which is stupid for the playoffs but that's fodder for another thread) I can't go crazy changing my lineup.

So if I slot 3 guys as the 1st backup for 3 different positions will HAL make the right moves? Does anyone know for sure?

Example:

Move DH Gates Brown to 1B
Move C Smokey Burgess to DH
Move Backup C Ernie Whitt to C

Because of 2 games tonight I can't just change the lineup for the first game. So I'm hoping HAL will do what I wish.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Nope, won't work. The depth charts can only handle one shift. This is from the online wiki:

Sample depth chart
2B: Chase Utley (backup: Freddy Sanchez)
SS: Freddy Sanchez (backup: Bill Hall)

At the start of a game, if Utley were unavailable to play, the computer manager would try to insert his first backup, Sanchez, into the starting lineup at 2B. Since Sanchez is normally the starting SS, the computer would play his backup, Hall, at SS, so that Sanchez can slide over to play 2B.

At present, although the system is able to perform multiple, separate shifts in the same lineup, it can only handle one level of a given shift. In other words, using the above example, if Hall happened to also be in the starting lineup already (e.g. in CF), instead of moving Hall to SS, it would pull someone from the bench to replace Sanchez.

Also, I think - can't find this on line - the DH position is handled separately. The depth chart won't handle moving your DH to a fielding position.

Rich, that won't work if Brown and Burgess are both in your starting lineup. List Brown as starting 1b and Klu as DH, you will only lose a little defense and all 3 will play once Klu is healthy. Also, it looks like your point is moot, Smiley and Henry are penciled in to start games 1 and 2.

This is only true while the game is in progress. HAL will make changes to the DH (move to a fielding position) before the game starts.

OK, good, they must have fixed this when they implemented the platoon pinch hitter because the DH depth chart used to only work for the DH position - was very frustrating.
