Can someone PLEASE list the specific differences between Standard and Advanced Skill options when you are setting up a 365 ATG league? I don't understand why it isn't enumerated in the rules. TYIA.

It is just a general advisement telling potential players about the expected skill level of players in the league

In the old days the winners of advanced league got more points in their manager rankings then standard leagues.

No more rookie leagues. A long time ago, a "rating" system for managers was planned. You got so many "points" for this and that and you got more for advanced leagues. I believe that's long been forgotten. So generally, some managers use it to flag or warn players of the skill expectations for the league membership. We used advanced for Barnstormers. Now we were given a "Tournament" designation that only tournament commish's can see. We asked for this Tournament designation because those leagues don't "auto self destruct" if no one is in them and we like to create bunches of leagues at a time. Otherwise, nothing really "special" about advanced leagues.

I believe the distinction was rendered moot when the game migrated from TSN to Glenville. Prior to that, it did mean something, but only to the extent that one cared about one's manager rating. Managers ratings cater to vanity, the more teams you play the higher the rating goes. It is similar to Master Points in Bridge. Elo ratings, such as used in tournament chess, are much more reflective of actual playing strength but offer no incentive to buy, buy, buy more teams. Also, not sure the SOM management is bright enough to implement an Elo based rating system anyway.

A more accurate manager rating should not be difficult. The algorithm would be very simple - managers winning percentage weighted by level of competition = overall winning percentage in each league. The game company certainly won't support it - managers rating = wins ($$$), but perhaps they would allow a third party to publish the ratings like Diamond Dope.

OK, thank you all for your helpful guesses.

Having to choose between Standard Skill and Advanced Skill options when you are setting up a private SOM 365 league is a true dilemma, a real process stopper. To find out that the whole thing means nothing is....

It fits in with the unbelievablly difficult steps Strat puts users through to sign up and then find the intended league to join. I've invited league members to join my private leagues and had them purchase a game credit, only to have them get lost in the process, start over, and purchase an additional credit. The confusion couldn't be intentional, now could it?

As others have said, Standard Skill vs. Advanced Skill doesn't matter much when players are looking at league parameters. Salary cap and DH vs. No DH determine what league most will join.

To your other point, are you saying that a member of your league had to go through the credit purchase process twice before they could get a team? While unusual, I suppose it's not unheard of. Have them contact SOM with their details. There's no reason they shouldn't be compensated.
