cards with a 2 injury rating (non-catcher), worth it?

PostThu Oct 01, 2020 7:38 am

As a general rule, I try to mitigate my injury liability as much as possible, with the exception of catchers, I never spend starter money on a guy with a 2 or greater injury rating. In a recent league I accidently used the Eddie Collins 1911 card (I think I meant to go with 1919 but clicked wrong obviously did not notice) and thus far, its been totally worth it. Anyone else out there use 2 (or greater) injury guys? Any gems out there worth a shot?

It can be a crap-shot. I also try to avoid injury 2s outside of catcher and especially hitters who will bat 2nd through 5th in the order. As an aside, I try very hard not to make roster changes mid-season if I think the lineup really should work well.

Ted Williams '57 killed it for me at $ 9.5M in a $ 85M theme league. .342 / .448 / .730 / 1.178 in 146 games played. 141 runs scored and 156 RBIs. 2nd in OPS.

On the other hand, I had Arky Vaughan do terrible one league with three 15g injuries and three other shorter injuries. And he isn't even a 2 injury.

Sometimes it is the plan old 1 rating that hurts. Beckwith is a good example. Killer bat, so I try and draft him on teams. Some seasons I get 600 AB out of him. Some I get 300 ABs...and that hurts a lot. 15 games into a current season, I have already lost him for a 10 game stretch. Arcky has hurt me that way too.

With that said, I sometimes go for the injury rating 3 card of Manny's. But you have to do it in higher cap games and have a good backup for him.

Typically I try to avoid 2s.
