Hey all, been playing ATG since v1 and dont think i've been as stumped as trying to figure out bullpen logic settings. Looking for ideas on what settings to configure the following bullpen to best try and put the right people in the right situations. Non-DH league. Home Park is Comisky '27, with L and R singles 1-15 , HR 0 on both sides. All 1's on defense.
Farmer, E. (1971) R S5/R3 9R .81M
Abernathy, T. (1967) R R2 1R 4.41M
Myers, R. (1988) L R2 1L 4.07M
Gossage, G. (1984) R R2 4R 2.93M
Venafro, M. (1999) L R1 7L 1.68M
Sherry, L. (1964) R R4 6R .93M
Thanks in advance,
Mike

I find the way to get the most usage out of a pen is:
#1 Reliever--Setup & Middle Man
#2 Reliever--EITHER Setup & Middle Man or Assign No Roles
#3 Reliever--EITHER Setup & Middle Man or Assign No Roles
That way your #1 guy gets most high leverage innings; either #2 or #3 backs him up in those roles, and the other of #2 or #3 picks up most of the other innings. You have to decide where you prefer #2 and #3 to operate.
Cheap guys? Give them roles where they wont pitch much in important situations. Mopup, Specialist, etc
And Regular, not Maximize...........

I haven't been using roles. But not as a strategy, just out of ignorance.
Andy, if you use setup & middle with your #1 reliever (and potentially your #2 or #3 relievers)...
Q1 ...then are you concerned about what happens in a tie game or where you are down by one run?
Q2 ...then does your #1 reliever, continue on to the save role if he has the endurance...?

Q1--Yes, but when you are limited to two roles, I gotta take what I can get
Q2--in my experience, yes.

Absolute ridiculousness. Many - myself included - expressed concerns about the super relievers, so in response, the game company:
1) increased reliever pricing substantially, AND
2) increased the likelihood of relievers becoming fatigued and therefore becoming unavailable, AND
3) limited relievers to two roles
It’s clear this is a total overkill. As I said in another thread, the cure is worse than the disease. Why not try 1) and 2) and see how they work before removing more than 50% of bullpen control?

Because of the fatigue rule changes and the #of roles limitation you will fare better with pitchers who only favor right or left, not specialists. Also it's better to use 4 relievers (1 closer type, 2 setup/middle types and a 4th middle/mopup type) not 5 featuring a couple of specialists. Better yet use 4 stud starters, rate 'em F5-F0, and use 4 specialists and a low $$ mopup guy. Just my 2 cents.

Couldn't agree more- One or two would have been enough- even 1 and 2 is doable- the two roles is punitive

I was not a fan of super-relievers so I like all of the changes made, including limiting to two roles.

I liked super relievers but I also like change. Its good for our brains'.
So bullpen changed. So pricing changed. There are new angles to play as the game changes.

I agree with andycummings. Put your L/R specialists first the top of your roles list so that HAL burns through them first before getting to your heavy innings guys. And put Farmer last as mopup.
