Bulletproof Figgins

Has anyone ever used Chone Figgins 5.24 million dollar 2009 card? He can't get hurt for more than a few innings. He is a 3B-1 E15 AA stealer .298 BA.395 OBP .393 SLG. .... He also happens to be a 4R, so you couldn't even play him vs. lefties.

He seems horribly overpriced to me, which is a shame, if true. Also, I would have preferred his 2007 card, which is not better, but probably would have been a better bargain.

Does anyone think I am wrong, maybe he isn't horribly overpriced? ?

If he faces 2/3 righty pitchers he'll do fine. I've used him many times. But if it's closer to 50/50 he sucks.

I think he's priced just right.

I filtered the search for 3B. 1 on defense. $5.30 or less. AA stealer.

Tom Burns was the only other choice.

In $60-80m leagues, playing smallball, he's a nice choice.

The biggest problem with his price value is who he can be platooned with. There are only 5 or 6 guys suitable on a small ball team vs. Lefties to use with him and keep a 3b price below 7mil. And at that price there are quite a few better options! I think you are right Radagast, he should be priced in the $4.50 range. Maybe he gets used at 100m and above, unlikely below that IMHO.

It’s inherently inefficient to platoon a bulletproof player. Half the value in low-cap platooning is having your backup already on the roster, which saves you 0.50; that becomes redundant with the premium for Figgins’s injury rating. But he’s otherwise a perfect small-ball platooner. His ideal pairing is with a guy who plays weak D and gets injured a lot — then you get extra use out of Figgins as a replacement.

What he said.....and well stated it was.

I use Figgins frequently... normally I platoon him with .99M$ 3b2e26 Fred McMullin who is more than allright against lefties... I can't say though that Chone's numbers approach what they should look like playing only against righties... but his speed (about 70% SB success combined with 1-17 base running) and defense are a great plus... I have him right now at Braves Field and he's hitting .253 with .339 OBP and 18 SB in 26 attempts and only 3 errors in 87 games...

Not the value I want for $5+, making the point is he's priced too high. The platoon you are using costs $6.23, seems a bit steep for the results, even in a pitchers park.

I feel like he’s priced too high for the 80M leagues I play. That said, I don’t think he has to be a platoon option only on small ball teams. You can always have him as a top of the order hitter vs. righties, platooned with a power hitting (possibly poor glove) selection who bats lower on the order against lefties. Meanwhile, have a corner OF, say, who can be lead off vs. LHP, paired with a power hitter vs RHP who bats lower in that order. You basically have 2 platoon pairs who happen to play different positions.

Tbh, though, I wouldn’t drop that much $$ on him in a low salary league. I can get similar numbers elsewhere, and bring Dave Chalk in for defense.

I use him a lot, either 80M or 100M, in 3b platoons with Jordy Mercer.
