Anyone else have issues with his # of steal attempts?

He is my 2 hitter behind John McGraw

https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1637340

every other base stealer on the team (every starter but the catcher) has twice as many steal attempts as him.

He is set to steal more and my base stealing is set to aggressive.

This is not the first league that this has happened.

Of course the team is 51-27 so what the hell am I complaining about?

I am confused.

From my understanding, some base stealers, like Milan (20-16), are rated a 20 with a good lead, but still a 16 even with a bad lead. He's probably gonna try to go with that 16 even if his lead is bad.
Browning (15-6) is a 15 with a good lead, but only a 6 with a bad lead. This is probably the reason; if Browning doesnt get a good lead, he doesnt go.

I've always wondered how Browning can have a AAA steal rating... 103 stolen bases and no caught stealing... and a 15-6 ratio...

Explanations anyone ???

What matters is the 15/6--not the AAA rating. Thats just a description--has no statistical meaning. I think Strat decided with some of those early steal totals they were not going to take them seriously. Why they stuck with a AAA description when hes more like a B...I dont know.

yeah... maybe... but Billy Hamilton has about the same satatistics in the same era and yet... has at least 13 as his second number...

If you look at the total steals for the American Association for his carded year, you can see that season was an outlier, 1760 more steals than the previous season and 705 more than the season following. Also, Browning never approached that total again, his next best total was 36 in 1888, at that time as well, "caught steals" were not an official stat. It also appears , in an attempt to compete with the National League, teams in the AA emphasized the running game in 1887. The weak armed catchers, standing well back of the plate, without gloves, were not able to adjust. Each year following '87 steals went down in the AA until it's demise in 1891. So my guess is that Strat carded his stealing accordingly.

I notice you have Browning batting second in the order behind a high OBP leadoff hitter. I wonder if this might be cutting down on his steals? Maybe an inordinate number of times when Browning gets on base, there's a runner clogging up the base ahead of him. I don't know what your various settings are, but could it be HAL is choosing the hit-and-run or sacrifice bunt option after Browning gets on base more often than he is with runners in other parts of the lineup. Just some things to think about in addition to what's already been posted.
