Anyone light up my lights please...

Tell me how it's possible to have one's batting average higher than his OBP...

I just can't figure it out...

Take Mays for example...

BA .333, OBP .308 !!!

I just don't get it...

Batting Average uses only Hits divided by At Bats in its calculation.
OBP uses Times on Base divided by Plate Appearances (Sac Flies, Walks, HBP, Sac Bunts) in its calculation.

So it could technically happen.......wonder if he had a sac fly in Game 2, plus no walks or HBP yet to aid OBP

I use Ralph Garr a lot and it happens quite often with him.

Thanks Andy... I hadn't thought of including sac flies and sac bunts in my equation for OBP...

Fielder's choices as well.
