It's not a huge sample but you might find this interesting:

In 31 Mid-Cap Drafts (salary range from $140 - $165 million w/DH and Frenzies), The results are as follows:

First Round Runner Up Championship Total Playoffs

#1 Pick 5 Teams 4 Teams 2 Teams 11 Teams
#2 Pick 4 Teams 2 Teams 3 Teams 9 Teams
#3 Pick 10 Teams 3 Teams 1 Team 14 Teams
#4 Pick 6 Teams 2 Teams 1 Team 9 Teams
#5 Pick 4 Teams 2 Teams 5 Teams 11 Teams
#6 Pick 3 Teams 5 Teams 5 Teams 13 Teams
#7 Pick 2 Teams 0 Teams 3 Teams 5 Teams
#8 Pick 4 Teams 3 Teams 3 Teams 10 Teams
#9 Pick 4 Teams 3 Teams 3 Teams 10 Teams
#10 Pick 7 Teams 1 Team 0 Teams 8 Teams
#11 Pick 7 Teams 3 Teams 3 Teams 13 Teams
#12 Pick 6 Teams 4 Teams 2 Teams 12 Teams

Teams with Ruth on them won an average of 80.55 games per season and 2 Championships.

Teams with Bonds on them wan an average of 80.68 games per season and 3 Championships.

I don't believe this shows any consistent trends, other than the fact that picking early in the draft doesn't seem to influence the ultimate success of teams.

In my very un-scientific review, it appears that team success had more to do with the quality of the managers (high win %'s) then with any other factor.

SURPRISE!!!

RATS! The format on that table turned out terribly!

Oh well, hopefully you can figure it out.

Interesting data! I agree with your conclusion. Do Ruth and Bonds always go 1-2? I've yet to dabble in live drafts.

I have long believed and told those that dare listen to me that the WORST draft spots are 6 thru 9 but I don't think your data supports that. I still don't like drafting 6 thru 9 if given the choice.

Personally, my favorite drafting position in sub 200 million drafts is either 11th or 12th and your data tends to support that opinion slightly.

I know Ric (NTexasWidowmakers) didn't believe me in the past when I congratulated him when he got the 11th or 12th pick in a sub 200 million live draft. Do you believe me now Ric?

Thanks Rusty for sharing this data.
