this is probably a big project, so I could understand if it is impractical, but I would love the owner's name on the roster page to be a link to the collection of his teams with links to them

I can see how that would be useful, but don't think we need it and doubt SOM has the bandwidth to do it. Just check out all the Barnstormers links to owners' seasons, shows you how owners draft in the big time competition that is Barnstormers. Link to the most recent: https://365.strat-o-matic.com/tournament/40

Just click on the owners name and check out his teams at various salary caps and DH etc, note which did well, of course.

Otherwise, I just scout them based on leagues I've been in with them.

This use to be a feature but was taken away as top money paying customers were having their teams hijacked in leagues by owners not wanting to bother with learning to play the game through their own experience.

geeze, if you want to see what teams the top owners are putting together, join leagues that they are in. best way to learn.

One of the things that cracks me up, is I regularly encounter teams in leagues that use the same 4 starting pitchers that were used by one owner to win one of the barnstormer crowns. Of course, theese teams did not perform anywhere near to what these copy cat owners expected, as they failed to account for all the other factors that come into play when putting together a team to win in a specific league with different owners, different ballparks, different lineups, different strategies. The only way to really learn, is to join leagues that the best owners are in, and see how they change the team they put together based on all the factors involved. Of course if you want to learn how to put together the best team using St. Louis Cardinals, your path is clear.

Agree players should develop their own strategy and all, but in real life successful teams (in all sports) are copied pretty regularly, should not be a surprise they do it in cyber world as well. Ultimately though join leagues/formats that interest you as this is just for entertainment.

Copying a successful team entirely is not always a winning touch. As noted above, context, league, ballparks, % of lefties and righties faced, really matter. Every iteration of a SOM season is different. Study your details where you are :)

Understanding why a team is good is more important but harder than copying a roster for certain.

goffchile--precisely.
you said it better than I did.....that was the point I was trying to make per those 4 starting pitchers.

With all the access to spreadsheets, rating sources such as diamond dope and Joe the Jet's rating system, and people's own highly developed excel spreadsheets, it is not just ratings alone that determine a teams success.

The very top owners who play this game, not only clearly have very effective rating systems, but they also have developed the resources and abilities to fine tune and customize a team, based on the stadiums, lineups, pitching staffs etc. for each individual specific league.

And yes, the great thing about it, is that each league is different, each league has its own set of parameters, so copycatting is no guarantee of success. I think the most productive use of time in putting a team together, is to customize your team to your home ballpark, then per your team's division, and then the overall.

Then of course, there is that thing about OBP....

Well stated and I agree.
